Abstract: The present dissertation entitled "A Study on the Errors Committed in the Use of Negation" aims at identifying the errors in negative formation committed by the ninegraders in government-aided schools of Kathmandu district. Forthe study, fivegovernment-aided schools of Kathmandu district were selected. While selecting schoolsof Kathmandu valley, the methods of probability sampling designs were used by applyinglottery method. The researcher prepared five types of test items (A, B, C, D and E) for thecollection of relevant, valid and appropriate data. First of all a set of test items wasadministered among forty-five learners of Padmakanya Higher secondary school as apiloting test, and the answer papers were collected withina limited time. After collectingthe answer papers, process of identification, description, and explanation of errors wasdone in order to find out whether the questions were too easy or difficult for the learners.At last, the researcher found that in totality, the learners committed more errors ingrammatical negation rather than lexical ones. This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter, whichincludes the general background, objectives of the study, the literature reviewed, andsignificance of the study. Chapter two includes the methodology adopted to carry out theresearch. Chapter three consists of the analysis and interpretation of data. Chapter fourconsists of the findings and recommendations of the study. It endswith a part headingreferences and appendixes.
