Abstract: This research is basically a study of English code mixing in modern Nepali poems. Itaims at analyzing the English expressions mixed in the poems composed during themodern era of Nepali literature. The primary sources of data were the composers andreaders of modern Nepali poems. Similarly, the secondary sources of data were thepoems composed during the modern age. The required data were gathered by employingjudgmental non-random sampling. That is to say, only thirty poems were selected out ofthe poems composed from the time of Lekh Nath Poudel to the date. Likewise, 15composers and 15 readers of the modern Nepali poetry were chosen to obtain theirattitude towards English code mixing. The data was analyzed using simple statisticaltools like frequency and percentage. The findings of the study show that out of differentEnglish expressions, words are mixed maximally in modern Nepali poetry. Within wordsalso, nouns are mixed more than other word classes (verbs, adjectives, adverbs). It isfound that modern poems contain different English expressions due to globalization ofEnglish and rapid development of modern science and technology. Similarly, writers'English background, lacks of actual Nepali equivalent terms, etc. are the major reasonsfor English code mixing in modern Nepali poetry. The first chapter deals with general background, review of the related literature, objectiveof the study and so on. Similarly, the second chapter deals with the methodology adoptedand the third chapter consists ofthe analysis and interpretation of the collected data.Finally, the fourth chapter deals with the findings and recommendations.
