dc.description.abstractThe present research work is an attempt to analyze the vocabulary used in "Our Social StudiesBook-4 in terms of total number, frequencyofoccurrence, parts of speech and phonological structure. In order to carry outthis study, the researcher collected data from "Our Social Studies Book-4(9 th edition)written in English medium by Chandra timothy and NarayanPrasad Uprety. The tool the researcher made use of was intensive study ofthe textbook. The major findings of this studycan be concluded as:nouns occupythe highest number of vocabulary items in the textbook. The word 'region''has the highest number of frequency among all the words found in thetextbook. Adverbs occupy the least number of vocabulary items used in thetextbook. Mono-to-hexa (one to six) syllabic words were found in thetextbook. Di-syllabic words occupy the highest number among themono tohexa syllabic words. The study consists of four chapters altogether.Chapter one introducesthe study in terms of the general background, review of related literature,objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two discusses the methodology used for the study underwhich the sources of data, process of data collectionand limitation of thestudy are mentioned. Chapter three deals with analysis and interpretation of the data.Statisticaland analytical approacheswereused for the purpose. Chapter four discussesthe major findings and recommendations of thestudy.en_US
