Abstract: This thesis entitled ‘A Study on the Cultural translation of the Novel SETOBAGH.Techniques and gaps’. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the techniques of translating cultural words and to find out the gaps in them. The data for the study were collected from both Nepali and English versions of the novel. The data consisted of 250 cultural terms which were categorized into five groups.Findings of this study show that nine different techniques were used in translating cultural words of the novel. There were many instances of the use of non-corresponding meaning components, which lead gaps in translation. So, the gaps existed between the SL terms and TL terms. This study is divided into four chapters. Chapter one introduces general background of topic, literature review, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter i.e. methodology enlarges on the sources of data, process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter interprets and presents the data. Descriptive and analytical approaches are used for the purpose. Chapter four presents the findings of the study on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of data. On the basis of the findings some recommendations are drawn. The references and appendix are the concluding parts of the study.
