Title: Use of Teaching Aids in the English Language Classes

Abstract: This thesis attempts to find out current tendency towards English language teaching aids in the case of primary English teachers especially trying to trace the teachers' interest and attitude towards the teaching aids along with positive or negative impact upon them exerted by the use of teaching aids. It also attempts to disclose how the teachers instantly use the aids to achieve the desired outcome. The research included 40primary English teachers from Tanahun district through judgmental sampling procedure to obtain the primary data. The tools for data collection consisted of questionnaire with 22 questions and a checklist to list those teaching aids used by the primary English teachers at the time of observation. The researcher himself visited the schools of the district and undertook observation of the20 teachers' 40 classes (2 classes taken by each teacher) and distributed questionnaire to each of the 40 teachers.The research ultimately disclosed the fact that most of the primary English teachers are absolutely aware of the value and significance of the teaching aids in classroom teaching and learning but they are still lagging behind in using them due to a number of reasons such as poor financial condition of the schools, lack of training about using teaching aids,negligence of the administration of the schools, shortage of time for the preparation of aids etc. This thesis comprises four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study in terms of general background, review of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology applied to carry out the research work. In order to collect the data , VII questionnaires were prepared addressing to the primary level of English language teachers. Checklists were also devised to trace the currently used teaching aids in schools. Chapter three presents the analysis and interpretation of the derived data. Chapter four discusses the findings of the study as a whole and it also contains some recommendations that are made having based on the findings of the study.
