Abstract: The study entitled "Potentiality of Sustainable Rural Tourism of Karnali Gateway of Surkhet" has the following objectives.  To highlight the potential areas and investigate the flow of tourist.  To identify the problem of tourism and analyze socio economic impact of tourism in Surkhet.  To study the future prospects of tourism development in Surkhet and recommend policies to develop it. The study is based on both primary and secondary data using purposive sampling on the basis of quota sample method. More specifically, it is based on primary data collected using questionnaire through field survey in the study area. Based on the study it has been found that Surkhet is located at the gateway of entire Karnali region. It is a place of famous archeological cultural and religious importance. It is also a place of god gifted natural assets, mountain, lakes, river basin, wild life, favourable climate and other attractions which will be great interest for the tourist. This place looks attractive for both domestic and International tourists. In the view of its potential for the tourism development, the local community and local bodies must be interested and aware on the development of this area jointly as tourist destination. It is delighting to see more domestic tourist in the field, mostly for the purpose of official visit. Every facilities of accommodation like home stay and hotels are available in Surkhet in cheap price. Tourism being not developed, its impact has been found positive in Surkhet It has also found that Surkhet has basic infrastructural facilities and enormous tourist attracting features, which should be upgraded under the active participation of the local people. It can also be developed as a hub of Karnali Rural Tourism which adds more support for the sustainable rural tourism development of Surkhet.
