Abstract: | This study entitled “Students’ Attitudes Towards Studying Literature”was an attempt to find out the attitudes of thes tudents towards the course‘Teaching English Literature’ ( Eng. Ed. 392) prescribed for the students of B.Ed. third year as an elective subject majoring in English Education.The researcher selected eighty students of M.Ed. first year majoring in English, Faculty of Education, T.U. Kirtipur. One set of questionnaire consisting of both closed-ended and open-ended questions was provided in order to collect their attitudes towards the course. On the basis of the collected data, the attitudes of the students were determined, analyzed and tabulated. The main findings of the study showed that the course has both strong and weak aspects. The strong aspects are greater in number than weaker ones. As a whole, the students had positive attitudes towards the course. The researcher found that the course TEL (Eng. Ed. 392) has been quite useful for teaching learning language as well as to know about the world and historical development of literature and study other subjects written in English. It is very practical, useful and interesting for thes tudents which encourage them to study and make active participation in conversation to develop communicative competence. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with introduction.It consists of general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study, and definitions of the specific terms. Similarly, chapter two introduces the methodology adopted for the study. It incorporates sources of data,population of study, sampling procedures, and tools for data collection,processes of data collection and the limitations of the study. Likewise,chapter three consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. Finally,Chapter four incorporates findings and recommendations. |
