Abstract: | Brick Laneby Monica Ali is directed to the Ali’s attempt in presentation of the Sylheti community occupying a large land in England. The author seems to have dealt with the communal issues especially the Bangladeshi immigrants’ economic condition and their overall lifestyle. In course of coping with this issue, Ali has been too much biased and unfair. Despite not having adequate information about Sylhetis, she pretends to have known a lot which is pretty clear in the novel Brick Lane. Nazneen, the central character, her mouthpiece has been portrayed in such a way that she has always revolted against the Islamic culture and Bangladesh ilifestyle. It discloses the innermost motive of the writer that she herself is too preoccupied with the concept that the Islamic culture and people of its followers are orthodox and rigid which is in fact partially true. Thus the novel in the entirety is the misrepresentation of the Sylhetis. |
