| Abstract: | John Updike in hisRabbit Runraises a burning issue of suburban life of America. The novel focuses on the problems faced by common people in theabsenceof spiritual belief in this modern material world. Rabbit Angstrom ofRabbit Runis an ex-basketball player, who cannot adjust in the world of workand family,and thusruns away from responsibility.The novelpresents a bleak, existential view of the late 1950s. Rabbit’s running is also a metaphor for seeking a better life, a sign that he is redeemable. In order to carry out this research I have divided my thesis into four chapters. The first chapterelaborates the thesis with some textual evidences. Chapter second includes theideasand tools based on Marxism. Along with Marx other prominent Marxists ideas are taken. The third chapter discusses the life and struggle faced by Rabbit Angstrom in this modern material world. |
