Symbolic Collision in Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire

Abstract

The focus of my research is on the tacit dramatization of a symbolic collision between idealism and realism, which is based on the employment of a variety of private symbols in Tennessee Williams's one of the masterpiecesA Streetcar Named Desire. This collision is not visible in the superficial ordinariness of the play as it is completely covert. However, this research work makes an effort to do a thorough excavation, interpretation and analysis of major private symbols exploited in the play so as to aptly externalize the symbolic collision on the solid foundation of a sturdy clash between Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski, the representatives of idealism and realism respectively, in the play.
