Abstract: This study, “A Study on Writing Proficiency of Grade Eight students” attempts to identify and explain the writing proficiency of grade eight students in Ramechhap district. In order to collect the relevant data, a set of test items was administered to sixty students. The date was analyzed, findings were drawn on the basis of the findings, some suggestions were recommended. The research on Writing Proficiency proved that the writing skill of the boy and girl students was better in terms of grammar, spellings and words rather than punctuation, formal features as well as cohesion and coherence . They obtained more marks in mechanics of writing than in guided and free writing composition. The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one presents the general background of the study, deals with the review of related literature and describes the objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two introduces the methodology applied to carry out the research work along with limitations of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data such as item wise analysis, school wise analysis and gender wise analysis. In order to make the analysis, objective and accurate, statistical tools of average and percentage have been used. Chapter four presents the summary of the findings and some recommendations made on the basis of analysis and interpretation
