Abstract: The present research study entitled“Effectiveness of Using Computer in Teaching Vocabulary” tries to analyze the effectiveness of using computers in teaching vocabulary, find out the fundamental differences between using computer in teaching vocabulary and teaching vocabulary by traditional methods like using pictures, synonym, antonym, definition, suggest some effective ways of teaching vocabulary by using computer, and pinpoint the pedagogical implication of the study.To carry out this research, the researcher descriptively studied the Grade -9vocabulary items and selected 50 difficult vocabulary items. Then he researcher administered the achievement of the vocabulary items developing a-hundred-marktest item, whereas pass marks was 50. The researcher randomly selected a private school of Kathmandu district and 50 students form Grade-9. A pre test was administered to them. Then he divided students into experimental and controlled group according to their scores of pre test. After that, the researcher taught the selected vocabulary to controlled group by traditional method like using picture,synonym, antonym, definition and he taught same vocabulary items to experimental group by using computer. Using computer in teaching vocabulary was found more effective (i.e. 14.44 above in average) than teaching vocabulary by traditional methods like using pictures, synonym, antonym and definition. Vocabulary taught byu sing CD of different dictionaries and by using different applications software was found extra satisfactory. This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study in terms of general background, review of related literature, objectives, significance of the study.
