Abstract: This study entitled"AComparativeStudy on Adverbs in DangoriyaTharuand English"intendsto identify the adverbs and their constructionsinDangoriyaTharu and compare the adverb systemofDangoriyaTharuwith thatofEnglish.I adopteda survey research designfor this study. To address theobjectives, sample of 60 respondents from Manpur and Tarigaun VDC of Dangdistrict were taken for the primary data using purposive non-random samplingprocedure.Iusedtwosetsof questionnaires consisting of 31 open-endedandequivalent vocabularyquestions in order to collect the required information.The data collected from the informants were analyzed and interpreted tocompare the structural formation of the two languages. Itwasfound thatexcept root adverbs,themost English Adverbs are formed adding suffix-ly tothe words of adjectival class but, there is no consistency in the formation ofDangoriyaTharu adverbs.The repetition of same word could from adverbs inDangoriya Tharu language. Moreover, Dangoriya Tharu adverbswere found tobe less in number than English adverb. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with theintroduction of the topic which includes background, statement of the problem,objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study,delimitations of the study, and operational definitions of the key terms. Thesecond chapter covers review of the theoretical literature, empirical literature,implicationsof the review for the study and conceptual framework. The thirdchapter deals with the designand method of the study,population, sample andsampling procedures,study areadata collection tools, data collectionprocedures and data analysis and interpretation procedures. Likewise, thefourth chapter presentsthe result and discussion offindings. Fifth chapter dealswith conclusions and recommendations followed by references and appendices. This researchconcludesthat the Dangoriya Tharu adverb has lesser number ofadverbswhich has been proved by theconvergence quality. The Dangoriya Tharu adverbs take place in the sentence initial and final position but Englishadverbs take place in the sentence initial, middle and final position. Lastly,theadjectival class adverbs are normally formed adding–lyto it but, DangoriyaTharu adverbs are formed adding-se,-che,-ka,-kha to noun, adjective andadverb.
