Abstract: The present thesisentitledTeachers’Beliefs on Use of Task Based LanguageTeaching for Developing Speaking Skillaimed to find out the Englishteachers’beliefs on use of task based language teaching for developingspeaking skill of secondary level students in Ilam and to identify sometechniques used by secondary level teachers for developing speaking skill totheir learners. Keeping the objectives in consideration, 30 English teachers ofsecondary school from Ilam were sampled, using survey research design,through non-random purposive sampling procedure. A setof structuredquestionnaire werethe tool of data collection. After analysis and interpretationof data, it wasfound that majority of the teachers believed that task basedlanguage teaching was useful to engagethe learners collaborative andcooperative learning environment. Likewise, most of the teachers hadpositiveview on discussiontechnique;it was the mostdominatedtechnique among allfor developing speaking skill. This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter one is introductory part whichincludes background of the study, statement of the problems, objectives of thestudy, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the studyand operational definition of the key terms. Similarly, chapter two deals withreview of related literature and theoretical framework includes the review ofthe related literature, theoretical and conceptual framework and implications ofthe review of the research. Chapter three deals with methods and proceduresunder which research design, population and sample, research tools, sources ofdata(primary and secondary), data collection procedures,data analysisproceduresand ethical considerations. Likewise, chapter four includes analysisand interpretation of data. Chapter five includes findings,conclusions andrecommendations. The recommendation is classified into policy related,practice related and further research related. Finally, the references andappendices are included.
