A Study on Situation of Single Women of Gujara municipality of Rautahat District

Abstract

TheStudy on Situation of Single Women of Gujara Municipality of Rautahat Districtwas basically focused on single women’s experience and their economic status and violence.The study fulfils the objectiveofexamine the social statusof the womenandfind out theeconomic status of the single women. Following the research problems, the study primarilyexplores the status single womenand their experience on violence against single women. Single women, due to patriarchalsystem were subjugated, discriminated and deprived. Therefore, to meet this objectives, mostly primary and qualitative data were used.Primary data were collected through in-depth interview, observationand case studies.Sample size ofthe study was 40 and total population was 220. Most of the single women were suffered from domestic violence due to their socialstatus. Majority of single women were aware and they have knowledge although theyhave not formal education. Many factors play vital role for domestic violence againstsingle women among them economic dependency was the major factor. If single womenearns, then their status automatically become high in their family. It was found that 85.5percent respondents belong to above 20 years age group where 14.5 percent under 20years age group. It shows that majority of respondents 75 percent and 5 percent dowryrelated factor and 20 percent respondents on unequal pay. Suffering from domesticviolence were 87.5 percent where is not suffering were In conclusion, single women in my study are in lower social status, victim ofdomesticviolence, economically deprived and their property right was mostly cheated by thefamily members
