This publication emphasizes the need for digital transformation in water distribution operations through the use of artificial intelligence, which can help enhance service delivery, reduce costs, and address unaccounted-for-water problems. Despite an increased application of numerical tools by water utilities, the digital transformation of the water sector is lagging behind other sectors. In this publication, some of the most extended applications of big data analytics and artificial intelligence-related algorithms in water supply are discussed, along with recommendations for implementation and preliminary cost estimates.
