This brief discusses how the People’s Republic of China can apply the green circular economy concept to address urban mining challenges toward achieving zero waste. Rapid urbanization, industrialization, and economic growth in the People’s Republic of China over the last 40 years have contributed to massive consumption of land and extracted natural resources. The country has been applying urban mining strategies, such as secondary mining and landfill mining, to recover resources and manage hazardous waste deposits. The brief provides options for policy development to mainstream urban mining and make it a part of the green circular economy.
