Item Enhancing vocabulary of young children through the use of matchstick figures and pictures(Department of English Education, 2023) Dhamala, SwostikaThis quasi-experimental thesis aimed to investigate the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary to young children using matchstick figures and pictures. The study involved 40 students from Shree Jaganath Dedraj Janta Secondary School in Sunsari district, Nepal, who were in grade 3. A pre-test was given to determine the students' proficiency level in vocabulary before dividing them into two groups. One group was taught vocabulary using traditional methods, while the other group was taught using matchstick figures and pictures. A post-test was administered to both groups, and the results were compared to determine the effectiveness of the two teaching methods. The study's background provides an overview of Nepal's educational system and highlights the significance of English as a global language. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of acquiring a wide range of vocabulary to attain proficiency in the English language.The statement of the problem highlights the difficulty in teaching vocabulary in Nepalese government schools, and the study aims to find out if teaching new words in a new and entertaining way will increase students' learning ability. The methodology of the study involved teaching class 3 students in a community school in Barahkshetra municipality of Sunsari district using pictures and matchstick figures to teach vocabulary. The findings of the study suggest that using these methods can help students learn new words better and increase their vocabulary retention. The implications of the study are that teachers should adopt new and interesting strategies to teach vocabulary to make learners active and engaged.Item Negative transformation in English and Khawas(Department of English Education, 2023) Chaudhary, MahanandaThis study entitled 'Negative Transformation in English and Khawas' was carried out to identify the processes of negation in Khawas language and to compare and contrast them with English. The researcher collected data from both primary and secondary sources. Using non-random purposive sampling, the researcher selected 50 Khawas native speakers (above 20 years of age belonging) from Inaruwa Municipality, Ward No. 7 Chandabela of Sunsari district. I took a structured interview and provided a set of questionnaire among them to collect data. Then, based information the study population. I analyzed and interpreted the data both qualitatively and quantitatively. The process of Khawas negative transformations were found vividly. The study found that 'nai' ‘ah:’ and ‘kyam’ were the negative marker in Khawas language. Khawas Negative imperative marker placed as the negative marker ( 'nai', ‘ah:’ , and ‘kyam’ ) before the verb in Khawas. The present study consists of five main chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the study , background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives, rationale, and significance of the study, research questions and the delimitations with operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter contains the review of related literature and theoretical framework and conceptual framework. Similarly, the third chapter is methods and procedures of the study. Likewise, the fourth chapter includes results and discussions that deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data. Finally, the fifth chapter comprises of the summary, conclusions and recommendations in policy level, practice level and further researches. At the end, the references and appendices are included.Item Reading comprehension ability of grade five students(Department of English Educaion, 2023) Pathak, RashmiThis research entitled “Reading Comprehension Ability of Grade Five Students” examines reading comprehension ability of two types of schools: EnglishMediumCommunity and Institutional. It mainly focuses on the reading and understanding the twopassages: one seenand another unseen in order to test students’ reading ability along with thecomprehension. To ensure whether they understood or not, subjective and objectivequestions are asked. In order to find out their reading comprehension ability ten schools wereselected from Sunsari district. The researcher went through the theoretical and empiricalreview of the related literature for making reliable research tools. The tools were made on thebasis of the data obtained from literature review. The students were given a set of0questionnaire. The questions were related to the comprehensive testing purpose. Therespondents answered genuinely. The data were analyzed and interpreted. It was found outthat there is no significant difference between English medium community schools andinstitutional schools in reading comprehension ability. There are five chapters in this present research. In the first chapter, the introduction ofthe research work has been presented. It includes the background of the study, statement ofthe problems, objectives of the study, research questions, and significance of the study,delimitation of the study and operational definition of key terms. The second chapter is aboutthe review of both theoretical and empirical literature. It includesreading comprehension,testing of reading comprehension, reasons for reading, types of reading skills, strategies ofteaching reading, implication of the review of the study and conceptual framework of thestudy. The third chapter includes the methods andprocedures of the study. It includes designof the study, sources of data, population and sample population, sampling procedure, datacollection tools and data collection procedure. Likewise, in the fourth chapter the result hasbeen presented with analysis and interpretation. Finally, in the fifth chapter, the findings,conclusion and the implications at different levels have been given. References have beenpresented in the last chapter.Item Speaking activities of english extbook for grade Six(Department of English Educaion, 2023) Chaudhary, PunamThis thesis entitled Speaking Activities of English Text-Book for Grade Six is an attempt to analyze the speaking activities included in the English textbook for grade six in terms of presentation, questioning, prediction, role playing and to explore the nature of speaking exercises included in the English textbook of grade six in terms of motivational, purposefulness, suitability of tasks for pairs and group work etc. In the process of this study, I collected data from primary sources. The primary sources of data were collected from the English Textbook of Grade Six through observational check-list. The obtained data were tabulated and analyzed using statistical tool. It is found that 44 speaking activities included in 18 units, 10 individual speaking activities i.e. 22.72 percentage, 30 pair work speaking activities i.e. 68.18 percentage and 4 group work speaking activities i.e.9.09 percentage were included in the text book. Similarly, 22.27 percentage questioning, 13.63 percentage discussion, 93.18 percentage purposefulness and 11.36 percentage. argumentative and 79.54 percentage motivational approach for speaking activities were focused. This research report consists of five chapters: introduction, review of related literature, methodology, results and discussions and findings and recommendations. The first chapter introduction contains general background, statements of the problems, rationale of the study, objectives of the study, research questions, significant of the study and delimitations of the study. Similarly, second chapter deals with review of the related literature, implication of the reviewed literature and conceptual framework. Chapter three methods and procedures of the study consists of design of the study, sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedures, data collection tools and procedures, process of data collection and data analysis and vii interpretations. Forth chapter is based on results and discussions of the data. In this section introduction of analysis and interpretation, identification and analysis of speaking activities included in the English text book of grade six was done. Finally, fifth chapter consists of findings and recommendations of the study. Reference and appendices are presented at the end of this chapter.Item Strategies used for regarding comprehension by grade eight students(Department of English Education, 2023) Yadav, BechanThis thesis entitled “Strategies Used for Reading Comprehension by Grade Eight Students” is an attempt to identify the strategies adopted by grade eight students in reading comprehension. The researcher collected data from the students of five secondary schools of Koshi rural municipality of Sunsari district. The researcher used survey research design. The total sample population of the study consisted of 50 students and five sample teachers selected from the five different schools. The researcher selected ten students from each school. The questionnaire was the major tool for the data collection. The researcher spent two days in each school for collecting the data. Students’ responses were collected in the first day and teachers’ responses were collected in the second day. This study revealed that there are varieties of strategies being implemented by the learners for reading comprehension. Some of the most frequently used strategies are asking teachers to translate English sentences into Nepali, consulting monolingual dictionary, reading English newspapers, consulting with peer, finding synonyms and antonyms, skimming and scanning. Similarly, most frequently implemented strategies for reading comprehension were predicting the meaning from the context, dividing the chapter into three stages like pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading stages, making pair discussion, connecting the new words with already learnt ones. Furthermore, the students adopted loud and silent reading strategies as well as paraphrasing, summarizing, elaborating, drawing conclusion. The students frequently asked the teachers to translate the text into Nepali equivalents for reading comprehension. This study consists of five chapters. Chapter one consists of the introduction, general background, statement of the problem, objective of the study, research question, significance and delimitation of the study. Chapter two consist review of related literature, their implications and theoretical framework. Chapter three consist of design of the study, source of data, population sample and sampling procedures, data collection procedures. Chapter four consists of results and discussion. This chapter includes the results of the study along with discussion of data. These data were analyzed and tabulated on the basis of the students’ and teachers’ responses. Chapter five consists of the summary, conclusion, and pedagogical implications of the study. The references and appendices are the conducting parts of the study.Item Use of E-resources for professional development by secondary level English language teachers(Department of English Education, 2023) Pyakurel, BijayaThis research entitled "Use of e-Resources for Professional Development by Secondary Level English Language Teachers" aims to identify the practices of secondary level English teacher towards the use of e-resources for professional development. The present study was based on survey research design. For this purpose, thirty different schools were selected through purposive sampling procedure. Data were collected using a set of questionnaires consisting of both close ended and open-ended questions which was used as a tool for collecting data. The collected data were analyzed statistically and descriptively. From the study, it was found that teachers themselves as highly motivated to apply new method and techniques in practices of e-resources for professional development. This research showed that e-resources are essential for teacher professional development. Teachers used internet as a resources tool, to improve their language skills and aspect to update themselves with the new knowledge in the field of ELT with the change of time and most importantly, they said that the improvement in their professions as well. The majority of the respondents (i.e.72.8%) were aware and they strongly agreed with the fact that teacher's knowledge of e-resources is very important in English language classroom. The majority of respondents (i.e. 94.45%) are accessed to the internet.Majority of the teacher are agreed that there are number of benefits of using internet for teacher’s professional development. The majority of the secondary level English Language teachers of Itahari Sub Metropolitan have been using e-resources to increase their knowledge to update themselves with the concurrent changes and innovations in ELT, to improve all skills & aspects regarding English for their professional or not. This study entitled ‘Use of e-resources for professional development by secondary level English Language teachers’ was conducted. This study comprises five chapters. The first chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, de-limitations of the study, operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter consists of review of related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework of the research. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methods and procedures of the study. It includes research design, population, sample and sampling strategy, data collection tools, data collection procedures, Methods of analysis of data and ethical consideration. Similarly, the fourth chapter consists of results and discussions. Fifth chapter consists of conclusion and recommendations. Overall discussion is followed by references and appendices.
