Item Ambivalent Female Identity in Shashi Deshpande’sThe Dark Holds No Terrors(Department of English, 2006) Bhattarai, BinodProblems of the adjustment and conflictin the minds of protagonists who ultimately compromise withthe traditional ruleseven as theyasserttheir individuality are the most dominant issues throughout Deshpande’s novels andThe Dark Holds No Terrors isno exception. The protagonist of the novelSaritapresents herself as a woman who wants toundergo self-quest and befree from the restrictions imposed by society, culture and nature. Her search for release from the constraints of the tradition-bound institution of marriagemakes her realize that complete autonomy is hard to achieve. The perception of the predicament of the human existence of alienation and isolation makes hercome to termswith society. Hence, the tension between compliance and rebellioncreatesan ambivalent position on part of the protagonist. This position of ambivalence fromwhich Sarita wants to come outis resolved as she learns to trust her feminine self. Theexpression of the assertion of her individuality, her willingnessto confront reality and not to run away from it displays courage, commitment to herself, and an affirmation of life and society.Item Effects of Habitat Structure and Invasive Alien Plant Species on Bird Assemblages in Jalthal Forest, Eastern Nepal(Department of Zoology, 2021) Bhattarai, BinodInvasive alien plant species (IAPS) are recognized to have an impact on faunal diversity and the global environment by changing the sort of native habitat in which they thrive. The Jalthal forest is one of the most invaded forests in eastern Tarai. Hence, this study aimed to find out the effects of IAPS cover on the occurrence of birds. By dividing the IAPS cover into three classes (Low, Medium, and High) outer one km strip of the forest was sampled. A total of 89 point count stations were deployed for the point count survey of birds. Generalized linear model (GLM) was done to understand the relation of the diversity and abundance of birds with environmental variables. Spearman's rank correlation was calculated to understand the relation of abundance and richness of different feeding guilds with the cover of IAPS. Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) was done to understand the association of different feeding guilds with disturbance variables and habitat types. A total of 86 species of birds belonging to 13 orders and 41 families were recorded. The insectivorous birds had the highest species richness. Wooded grassland had the highest diversity of birds. Bird species richness and abundance decreased significantly when the distance to the nearest water source, IAPS cover, and shrub cover increased. The Sal (Shorea robusta) forest was found to be the most preferred habitat type, however, the preference of habitats by feeding guilds was conditional. Jalthal forest is Nepal's only forest of its kind, and it is heavily infested by IAPS, more research into biodiversity and the effects of IAPS on biodiversity is in this forest required.Item Teaching Poetry Through Interaction(Department of English Education, 2010) Bhattarai, BinodThis study is carried out to identify the effectiveness of interaction in teaching poetry. The researcher selected the students of grade nine studying at Bhu. Pu. Sainik Rising School, Darchha, Rampur Palpa. The pre-test was administered to identify the actual level of performance before teaching. The students were divided into two groups: experimental and control on the basis of the results obtained from the pre-test with odd-even ranking procedure. The researcher taught the students belonging to the experimental group through interaction and taught for the control group applying the conventional technique. He taught for one month using the lesson plans and the teaching materials. After the classroom teaching, the post-test was administered so as to identify the effectiveness of interaction in teaching the given topic. Then the marks obtained by both the groups were compared and analyzed. On the whole, interaction technique was found to be more effective in teaching poetry. This study consists of four chapters. Each chapter is classified into necessary sub-sections. The first chapter consists of brief introduction of the related area of the study, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter summarises the methodological procedures adopted by the researcher to carry out this research. Under this, there are sources of data, sampling procedure, population of the study and the tools of data collection. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation for data. The data are compared and analyzed on the basis of the difference between the average score in the pre-test and the post-test. The fourth chapter consists of findings and recommendations of the study.
