Item A Study of Teaching Reading in Classroom Activities(Department of English Education, 2009) Ghimire, Krishna PrasadThis thesis has been prepared to identify and analyze classroom activities inteaching reading at gradefour ofpublic schools. In order to carry out this studythe researcher collected data from grade four students of ArghakhanchiDistrict. Classroom observation form was used tocollect the data.Tenteachersand all the studentsstudyingin the class participated in the study.To obtainrelevant information the researcherobservedthe classhimself. Thefindings ofthe study show that a majority of the teachers conducted readingactivities inthe classroom. All the reading passagesweretaught asking questionsandreciting meaning in their mother-tongue. Most of the teachers just askedstudents to read the passagethoroughlywithout reading comprehension.Seventy percent of teachers commonly pointed out to their textbooks and theyexplained the text themselves. The teachers gave attention on reading andwriting than listening andspeaking. Studentmotivation on teaching readingwas found satisfactory. A very few teachers used teaching materials. Studentparticipation and student-student interaction seemed less and most of theclasses were dominated by the teacher. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction. Itconsists of the English language, importance of English language teaching inNepal, objectives of teaching English at primary level, curriculum of readingskills in grade four, language skills, teaching reading,and reviewof the relatedliterature,objective and significance of the study.Chapter two describes themethodology which includes sources of data collection and limitation of thestudy.Chapter three includes the analysis and interpretation of data. It dealswith different classroom activities that are related and practiced to teachingreading skill.Chapter four consists of findings and recommendations made inthe light of findings.Item A Study on Errors Committed by Secondary Level Students in Using Articles(Department of Education English, 2011) Ghimire, Krishna PrasadThe present research work entitled 'A Study on Errors by the Secondary Level Students in Using Articles' is a survey research. The objectives of the study were to find out the errors committed by the students while using articles in English, to compare the errors committed by the students of government –aided and private schools and to suggest some pedagogical implications. For this research, two government –aided schools and two private schools of Kapilvastu district were selected. The total sample of population was eighty. Twenty learners were selected from each school. The researcher used simple random sampling procedure for sample population. The researcher prepared essay type and paragraph writing test items. It was found that the learners of government aided schools committed greater number of errors than that of the students in private school. In comparison to substitution and misordering of articles, over use of articles in improper places were found in abundance. The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter which includes general background, objectives of the study, review of the related literature and significance of the study. Chapter two includes the methodology adopted to complete the research. It particularly contains sources of data, sampling procedures, tools and processes of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three consists of the analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four consists of the findings and recommendations of the study based on the analysis and interpretation of the data. This chapter is followed by the references.Item Teachers' experiences on continuous assessment system in ELT classrooms(Department of English Education, 2023) Ghimire, Krishna PrasadThis thesis entitled Teachers' Experiences on Continuous Assessment System in ELT Classrooms was an attempt to find out the experiences of the teachers on the existing practices of continuous assessment system and to explore the strategies practiced by the teachers in order to make CAS effective in the ELT classroom. Six basic levelEnglish teacher of government schools basic level English teachers from Ramechhap district were selected through purposive non-random sampling procedure as the sample of the study. The data were collected with the help of indepth interview. The finding showed that the implementation of CAS helps the students to share their experiences, ideas and knowledge while solving tasks. CAS avoids the fear of different terminal examinations. Similarly, it helps the teacher to evaluate students while teaching and learning. Moreover, it also helps to increase the sense of inclusiveness among the students and it also exploits a lot of teaching materials which leads out teaching learning process towards effective and standards. In the same way, different strategies such as pair work, group work, field visit, visualization, co-operative learning, role play and self-evaluation were used to make the effective use of CAS in the ELT classrooms. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definition for the key terms are included. The second chapter consists of the review of related theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implication of the study and conceptual framework. In the same way, chapter three includes design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis procedures and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter is about analysis of data and interpretations of result. And the five chapter deals with findings, conclusion and recommendations which are summed up from the analysis and interpretations of the collected data for the purpose of research. The references and appendices have been included in the last section of the study.
