Abstract
The present research work entitled 'A Study on Errors by the Secondary Level Students
in Using Articles' is a survey research. The objectives of the study were to find out the
errors committed by the students while using articles in English, to compare the errors
committed by the students of government –aided and private schools and to suggest some
pedagogical implications. For this research, two government –aided schools and two
private schools of Kapilvastu district were selected. The total sample of population was
eighty. Twenty learners were selected from each school. The researcher used simple
random sampling procedure for sample population. The researcher prepared essay type
and paragraph writing test items. It was found that the learners of government aided
schools committed greater number of errors than that of the students in private school. In
comparison to substitution and misordering of articles, over use of articles in improper
places were found in abundance.
The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter which
includes general background, objectives of the study, review of the related literature and
significance of the study. Chapter two includes the methodology adopted to complete the
research. It particularly contains sources of data, sampling procedures, tools and
processes of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three consists of the
analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four consists of the findings and
recommendations of the study based on the analysis and interpretation of the data. This
