Item An error analysis in solving word problems in algebra at the secondary level(Department of Mathematics Education, 2022) Dahal, MilanThis study is entitled “An error analysis in solving word problems in algebra at secondary level”. The main aims of the study were to identify the errors done by students in solving word problems in algebra of mathematics at the secondary level and to identify the leading factors that affect solving word problems in mathematics at the secondary level. Here the present study was concerned with error analysis. This is a quantitative and descriptive survey design research. The sample of this study consisted of 30 students of Bhanubhakta H.S.S and Gyanodaya H.S.S studying at grade X as well as SEE students and the principal for interview. The paper pencil test paper was prepared with the help of an authentic book of grade X. After that, the test was administrated to the sample of students by the researcher himself. After the Newman procedure of interview was administrated in the selected sample and then a depth interview was taken to find out the causes of error. The study revealed that students had committed several errors in solving the word problems in algebra. The study showed that the maximum error was committed in comprehension (30.7%) and the least was committed in Process skill error (15.3%). There were many factors such as, lack of basic conceptual knowledge in algebra, language problems, less practice in word problems, the attitude of students towards algebra, teacher's qualification and performance, lack of practice, mixed-up rules, etc were responsible causes of errors made.Item Error Analysis on Verbal Problem of Mathematics(Department of Mathematics Education, 2021) Joshi, PusprajThe objective of this study was to analyze the patterns of errors committed by the primary level students while solving verbal problems of Mathematics. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the errors on the basis of Newman theoretical framework and as well as compare the error made by students according to school type and in knowledge, skill application and problem solving level of arithmetic to recommend some remedial measure to minimize such error in verbal problem. The sample in this study consisted of 40 students from four school of Kanchanpur district. A test consisting of 10 problems from grade IV students were administered to the sampled students to collect the required data. The collected answer sheets of the students were checked and errors on these were identified on the basis of Newman technique of analyzing error. The identified errors were classified according to Newman which were reading errors, comprehension error, transformation error, process skill error and encoding errors, with comparing school and question level. The study revealed that students have committed number of error in solving verbal problem in Mathematics. This study also revealed that the frequencies of error were dense in comprehension part and transformation error as in Newman theory of analyzing errors. The study showed that less errors were committed by Institutional school then public school. It also revealed that the student committed more error in skill and application level while solving verbal problem in arithmetic.Item Errors commited by Rai learners of English in speaking in grade nine(Department of English Education, 2017) Rajbanshi, RamrajThe present thesis entitled Errors Committed by Rai Learners of English in Speaking in Grade Nine aimed to identify the different errors committed by the Rai learners of English in speaking. Keeping the objectives in consideration, thirty Rai learners of Grade IX from three different community aided schools of same Bhojpur district were sampled through purposive nonrandom sample procedure. The test items comprising a set of questions and a set of pictures for the students and the structured interview for the English teachers of the schools were tools of data collection. After the analysis and interpretation of raw data, it was found that Rai learners of English speaking in Grade IX commit phonological errors, morphological errors, lexical errors, grammatical errors and syntactical errors. They commit phonological errors due to lack of knowledge of English pronunciation or English phonology. Similarly, they commit morphological errors due to lack of knowledge of English morphology or lack of exposures of English morphemes. They commit lexical errors mainly due to speaker‟s mother tongue or lack of English lexemes in related situations. Similarly, they commit grammatical errors due to lack of proper knowledge of English grammar. They generalize Nepali grammar in English. They commit syntactical errors mainly due to influence of Nepali sentence pattern i.e. „S+O+V‟ in English instead of „S+V+O‟. What can be concluded from this study is that the second language learners of English generally commit phonological, morphological, lexical, grammatical and syntactical errors. The thesis has been divided into five chapters viz. introduction, review of the related literature and conceptual framework, methods and procedures of the study, analysis and interpretation of the result, and conclusion and recommendations. The first chapter has included information about background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, Research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of key terms. The second chapter has included the review of related theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework of the study. The third chapter has included design and method of the study, population, sample, and sampling strategy, study areas, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedures. The fourth chapter has included analysis of data and interpretation of the result and summary of findings. Finally, the fifth chapter has included the conclusions and recommendations of the study. Recommendations have been presented in three levels named policy related, practice related and further research related.Item Errors committed by IELTS students in writing free composition(Department of English Educaion, 2010) Gautam, Krishna PrasadThe present study entitledErrors Committed by IELTS Students in WritingFree Compositionis mainly concerned with identifying and describing the errors in agreement, prepositions, capitalization, cohesion and coherence in freewriting. For this study, 50 students studying in five different educational consultancies in Kathmandu district were selected using disproportionatestratified random sampling procedure, (i.e. 10 students from each consultancy, consisting of equal number of students from both the sexes got selected). A setof subjective test items, consisting of one free writing question, was the oneand only tool for data collection. The study showed that the students committed the highest number of errors in coherence and the lowest number oferrors inusing capitalization. The students committed 417 errors in total, out of which89(21.34%), 35(8.39%), 68(16.31%) and 225(53.96%) errors were committedin agreement, capitalization, cohesion and coherence, respectively. The study consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction tothe study encompassing the general background, literature review, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology. It encompasses sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, research tools, process of data collection, and limitations of the study.Similarly, the third chapter, which is the core part of the study, includes theanalysis and interpretation of the data. And finally, the fourth chapterincorporates the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications ofthe study.Item Errors Committed by Tenth Graders in Mechanics of Writing(Faculty of English Education, 2018) Khadka, NirmalaThe research entitled Errors Committed by Tenth Graders in Mechanics of Writing is an attempt to find out the errors committed by tenth graders on capitalization, spelling and punctuation in writing letters. The main objectives of the research were to identify the errors in mechanics of writing and to explore the differences between the errors of the students of private and public schools in writing letters.
