Item Provisions, Perspectives and Practices on Teaching Listening(Department of English Education, 2023) Bishwakarma, Hem RajThe research entitled "Provisions, Perspectives and Practices of Teaching Listening" is an attempt to find out the provisions, teachers perspectives and practices that the Basic Level teachers have in teaching listening in their classrooms. For this research, I interviewed the English teachers. Five private and five community schools of Itahari sub-metropolitan were purposively selected as respondents. The data was collected from semi-structured interview questions. The data were analyzed and interpreted to find out the various perspectives and practices. The study found that the teachers agree on the importance of teaching listening, however, the frequency and organization of the listening activities in the classroom varies. They also believe that the insufficiency of time leads to less frequent listening activities. They also face several challenges such as time, resources and examination pressures. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study and delimitation. Second chapter deals with the review of related theoretical literature, review of related literature and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with research design, sources of data, population and sample, sampling procedures, data collection tools, data collection procedures and method of analysis of data. Chapter fours deals with the results and discussions. Chapter five deals with the conclusion and recommendations.Item The Role of Learners in English Language Classrooms(Department of English Education, 2015) Chhantyal, Lal MayaThis research study entitled “The Role of Learners in English Language Classrooms”aims at identifying learners’ perception on the roles of learners in learning English in the English language classrooms and finding out the frequently used roles by the learners at the time of teacher-learners’ involvement in the classrooms. I collected the data both from primary and secondary sources for the study. I selected five government-aided secondary schools located at Myagdi districtby using purposive non-random sampling. Ten English language learners from each school studying at grade nine were selected for the sample. I followed the qualitative and the quantitative approach for the in-depth study to find out the perceived attitudes of the learners towards their roles, hence, analysis and interpretation of data is done through the application of statistical approach and content analysis under descriptive approach. This study includes that the learners have positive attitudes and perception towards different roles. They confidently opined that multiple roles they play in the English language classroom have positive impact on learning that means the more they play different types of roles the more they are sure they learn. Now,according to class observation of the learners what it was found is such roles like ‘follower, problem solver, respondents to stimuli and inquirer’ were found most frequently occurring.’ This research work has five different chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction which contains information to introduce the area of research.Statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms are included in this chapter. The second chapter incorporates the sub-topics such as review of related theoretial and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study,theoretical/conceptual framework under the main topic ‘review of related literature and conceptual framework’. Containing the main topic methods and procedures of the study includes the sub-topics like design of the study, population and sample of the study, sampling procedure, data collection tools, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Likewise, the chapter four contains results and discussions. And the chapter five consists of summery, conclusion and implications. The final section ends with references and appendices used in the research.
