Item Detrimental Factors of Low Achievements in Geometry(Department of Mathematics Education Central Department of Education, 2015) Adhikari, Jhalak PrasadGeometry is one of the important aspects of mathematics. Research findings have shown difficulty in teaching and learning of mathematics, Geometry in particular. Not only the geometry most of the students are suffering from the confusion of the basic concept of the mathematics. So, this is a case study to identify the detrimental factors for low achievement of geometry and its remedial measure. This Study was conducted on Grade – VIII of Nightingale School, Kupondol, Lalitpur. Two teachers and six low achiever students of Geometry were selected as the respondent units. The school documents, classroom observation and interviews with students, teachers and parents were the tools of study. The major findings of the study were identified such as foundation of the instructor and the learner is not in the level of satisfactory. Students have poor generalization power in Geometry and interest of the students to improve their level is no more towards Geometry. Lacking on the willingness to learn new concept in Geometry and searching new teaching techniques, material related aspect and the evaluation tools. In our context we most give emphasis of geometry learning. In the similar manner contextualization of learning and change from the traditional one-way classroom to two-way interactive classrooms is required to change the level of Geometry in school level.Item Effectiveness of Reward on Mathematics Achivement of Grade Iii Students(Department of Mathematics Education Central Department of Education, 2015) Rijal, JamunaThe study entitled "Effectiveness of Reward on Mathematics Achievement of Grade III Students" is an attempt to study the effectiveness of reward on students’ achievement. It was conducted in Rasuwa district involving 17 students in experimental group and 15 students in control group. The study had two purpose: one is to analyze the effect of reward on mathematics achievement of grade III students and second is to gain an insight into the students’ participation in learning during experiment. This study used pre-test post-test non-equivalent group design and data was collected through experiment done providing one group with reward and another without reward by conducting the experiment for three weeks duration. Open-ended interview and classroom observation, where also taken for qualitative data. Achievement test papers, open-ended questions for interview, checklist and rating form for observation were main tools of this study. The t-value was calculated from the scores of achievement test to find the significance difference between two mean scores of pre-test and post-test and the information from interview and observation were analyzed using qualitative techniques. It is concluded that psycho-symbolic reward with verbal reward play effective role to increase students' achievement scores and practice of reward creates positive consequences such as increasing students' involvement, punctuation and appropriate changes in students' activities and work habits.Item Learning Behaviour of Horse [Equus Ferus Caballus Linnaeus 1758] in Nepal Cavalry Barrack, Singhadurbar, Kathmandu(Central Department of Zoology Institute of Science and Technology Tribhuvan University Kirtipur, Kathmandu, 2015) K.C., KamalScientists and equestrians continually seek to achieve a clearer understanding of Equus learning behaviour and its implications for training. Behavioural and learning processes in the horse are likely to influence not only Equus athletic success but also the usefulness of the horse as a domesticated species. However, given the status and commercial importance of the animal, Equus learning behaviour has received only limited investigation. Indeed this experimental research on learning behavior of horse colts studies on different behaviors of horse colt during learning stage. Learning ability index (LAI) is selected as major statistical tool for the comparison of learning ability of different age groups of colts. Learning behavior of Equus ferus caballus was studied at NCB (Nepal Cavalry Barrack) by the direct observation, field survey and questionnaire method. Field research was conducted mainly from June 2014 to August 2014 to explore the learning behavior of colt. The total populations of horses in NCB were 101 among them 50 were gelds, 6 colts, 13 stallions, 4 fillies and 28 mares. Expert trainers give training to horses having age below 4 years and above 2 years. Horse school in NCB is rectangular having height 3m, length 60 m and breadth 20m. On the ground of horse school there is sand, wooden dust and horse dung up to 15cm height. Each horse is controlled by single trainer. Training is given every day until they do not complete their training. This research includes the learning behavior of six colts in NCB. During training colts show different behavior like fighting, flighting, kicking and bitting. Trainers of horse teach to horse by repeating every event for many days and they reward to horse if it does nice and punishes if it does mistake (fighting and bitting). They reward by giving food. Every trainer takes stick to punish them. Learning ability test does not show any significant difference among six colts due to the less difference in their age group. Punishment and reward given to the colt don‟t effect for their learning. The major recommendations of this study are to use scientific technology and tools in NCB for the training of horses. Horse breeding and training should be improved for the local people, horse club and horse school for the improvement of horse sports. It may help in the development of country in the field of sports.Item Learning Strategies in instructed Second Language Acquisition(Department of English Education, 2011) Bhusal, SharadaThe thesis entitled“Learning Strategies in instructed Second LanguageAcquisition”is an attempt of the researcher to find out the learning strategiesused by second language learners. The main aim of the study is to find out thetechnique used by second language learners. Its further aim is to analyze thestrategies of second language learning. The objective of this research was tofind out the learning strategies used in second language acquisition and to seethe impact of learning strategies in their performance. To meet the objectives ofthe research, fifty English language learners were taken from different schoolswho were acquiring English as a second language. The collected data wereanalyzed using the statically and informal interaction with students andteachers. It was found that memory strategies were used to a great extent, although all kinds of learning strategies were used by students. I have divided this thesis into four chapters. The first chapter deals with thegeneral background, literature review, objectives and the significance of the study. The second chapter contains the methodology which includes the sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of datacollection, limitations of the study. The third chapter includes the analysis andinterpretation of the data obtained from the field. The last chapter has the findings and recommendations of the study in which some pedagogical implications have been forwarded.
