Item Complement Clausesin English and Maithili: A Comparative Study(Department of English, 2011) Yadav, Bhogendra KumarThe thesis"Complement Clauses in English and Maithili: A Comparative Study"endeavors to analyze, compare and contrast complement clauses in English and Maithili languages. The first chapter is introductory in nature. It includes general background, background and origin of Maithili and English languages, importance of grammar,statement of problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study,research methodology,review of literature, limitations of the study and organization of the study. The second chapter deals with the study of Complement Clauses in English on the basis of different traditional and modern grammars. The third chapter which is one of the focal points of the dissertation has presented the analysis of Complement Clausein the Maithili language. The chapter analyses Complement Clauses on the basis of traditional and modern grammars. The fourth chapter which is the focal point of the thesis has found out some similarities and differences in English and Maithili languages in terms of Complement Clauses. And the fifth chapterdeals with pedagogical implication,summary and conclusion of the whole dissertation.Item The Forms of Address of Tamang and English: A Comparative Study(Department of English Education, 2007) Tamang, Jhapta BahadurThis thesis entitled "The Forms of Address of Tamang andEnglish: A Comparative Study"makes a comparison of the addressforms used in the Tamang and English languages. The majorobjectives of the research is to identifyhow the native speaker of thetwo languages make choice of the forms of address, the words used toaddress somebody in speech, keeping in mind various factors like age,sex, relation, social setting, culture etc. related to addressor andaddressee.The study makes a comparison on the forms of addressused for consanguineal relations, affinal relations and social relationsincluding strangers, friends, teachers and students, people holdingpolitical, judicial and ecclesiastical positions, professionals likeofficer, doctor, nurse, and other persons in the Tamang community.The data was collected from thirty native speakers of Tamang inMakawanpur district using stratified random sampling procedure. Thesources of data for the forms of address in Englisharebased on theprevious research carried out in the Department of English Education,encyclopedias, etc.The researcher has found out that the Tamanglanguage is richer in the forms of address compared to English as itcontains the forms that are not found in English like 'ganba', 'dimladabo', 'm h eme, 'coho', 'lama', 'sebu r h o', 'm h e dopta', 'naŋba'. Thesystems of addressing people in the two languages differ in most ofthe cases. Usually, kinship terms have addressive use in Tamang butfirst names are more prominent in English.This thesis contains four chapters;The first chapter contains generalbackground, review of the related literature, objectives of the study,significance of the study and definition of the specific terms. Thesecond chapter is related to the methodology, which deals withsources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, researchtools,processof data collection and limitations of the study. Similarly, the third chapter comprises analysis and interpretation ofthe data obtained. Finally, the fourth chapter contains the findings of the study,recommendation and pedagogical implication of the study based onthe findings.Item Pronominals in English, Nepali and Newar(Department of English Education, 2009) Manandhar, SunitaThe present study entiled “Pronominals in English, Nepali and Newar” was an attempt tofind out Newar pronominals in relation to English and Nepali. Secondly, this researchendeavouredto compare and contrast Newar pronominals with those of the English andNepali languages. The researcher collected the data from both primary and secondarysources to accomplish the task. The primary sources of the data were native speakers ofNewar language from Kirtipur Municipality. Different books, journals, theses, websitewere the secondary sources of the data. The study place was selected throughjudgemental sampling whereas the study population, i.e. 80 informants were selectedusing snowball sampling. Interview and questionnaire were used as research tools fordata collection.The interview research tool was used for illiterate people andquestionnaire was used for literate ones.The collected data were analyzed and interpretedthrough the tabulation. After studying the data, the findings were drawn. The mainfindings of the present study are: Newar pronominal system is the most complex incomparison to English and Nepali due to the presence of the affixation, pluralization andalternatives. All the three languages have distinct pronominals but in comparison toEnglish and Nepali, the Newar language has more number of pronominals. The nasalizedsounds were found when the singular pronominals are pluralized. Newar personal,reflexive and possessive pronouns are categorized under three persons: 1 .There is the existence of inclusive and exclusive pronouns in plural number of 1 personpersonal, reflexive and possessive pronouns. It is also found out that there is the existenceof honorificand non-honorific system in 2 nd and 3 rd person personal, reflexive andpossessive pronouns. This thesis consists of four chapters: introduction, methodology, analysis andinterpretation and findings and recommendations.The first chapter deals with a briefintroductory survey of the related area of the study including general background,literature review, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter includes st , 2 nd and 3 st rd the methodology: sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools fordata collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Similarly, chapterthree deals with analysis and interpretation of the data and chapter four incorporatesfindings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study.
