Item Difficulties in Learning Mathematics of Tamang Students at Primary Level(Department Of Mathematics Education Central Department of Education University Campus Tribhuvan University Kirtipur, Kathmandu, 2015) Chaulagain, BalaramThe purpose of this study was to identify the causes of difficulties in learning mathematics of Tamang students at Primary level and to identify the impact of home enviroment in learning at school. For the purpose of the study the researcher choose a school situated in Bhotechaur 8 Jaisiganu, Sindhupalchock district. The researcher selected five Tamang children studying in grade five by using purposive sampling as his respondent. The researcher did in-depth observation of all the five children; spend more than one month and 15 days time for the observation of the children behavior, activities and their actual difficulties in mathematics classroom. The researcher also interviews the students to get the necessary information. The interview of their parents was also done to know the views about their children's study, their opinion about the difficulties of the Tamang children in mathematics. The interview of the mathematics teacher and Headteacherwas also done to investigate the causes of difficulties in mathematices of Tamang students. The researcher uses the theory of John Ogbu"Chltural differnce and discontinuity" to interpret the information and to get the conclusion. From this study the researcher found that the cultural discontinuity, language difference, lack of interpersonal relation, low economic condition, unfavorable school environment for learning, lack of local teachers, lack of enough practice in home etc. are the main causes of learning difficulties for Tamang students in mathematics. So, the researcher has come up with some suggestions and recommendations which are: school teaching has to relate the everyday learning method of Tamang children and mathcmatics teacher has to take into account the cultural practice of the students, has to emphasize on practical method in teaching.Item Perceptions of Teachers Towards Syllabus Designing at Primary Level(Central department of English Education, 2012) Thapa, Hukum BahadurThis present study entitled "Perceptions of Teachers Towards Syllabus Designing at Primary Level" is an attempt to find out the teachers' perception toward syllabus designing at primary level. To achieve the objectives, a set of questionnaire including 24 questions was prepared and fifty teachers were selected from different schools of Udayapur District to fill in the questionnaire. From the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was found that 50 percent primary teachers were not familiar with the term curriculum, syllabus and course of study. Majority of the teachers were unknown with syllabus designing and they were not involved in syllabus designing. Likewise, forty eight percent primary teachers taught without using syllabus. The present study consists of four chapters. Chapter one consists of general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study and rational of the study. The second chapter consists of sources of data, sample and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. Likewise, the third chapter consists of analysis, interpretation and presentation of the data which is the main part of the thesis. The fourth chapter summarizes the whole study by presenting the findings and recommendations for the pedagogical implication.Item Problems faced by Newar children in learning Mathematics at Primary level"(Department of Mathematics Education, 2016) Shrestha, Mahendra LalThis study is about “Problems Faced By Newar Children in Learning Mathematics at Primary Level”. This research is qualitative in design with an ethnographic approach. Classroom observation and interview with the students as well as teachers were used tools to collect data. Besides these, unstructured interview of selected students, teachers and parents were also used to analyze the problem. On the basis of reviewed literature and different concepts of theories, such as cultural differences and discontinuity theory, constructivism and its different aspects were used as indicators to analyze the collected information of the study. It was found that the home and the school environment of Newar students is not suitable for mathematics learning. There are linguistic problems in mathematics classroom. There is lack of interpersonal relations. In some of the places there is proper interaction but in some schools there is no proper interaction between teachers and Newar students in mathematics learning in classroom.Item Teachers' Attitude Towards Using Teachers' Guide at Primary Level in Jajarkot District(Department of Mathematics Education Central Department of Education, 2016) Budha, Khadka BahadurMathematics has been given a significant place in the curricula of all level of school education since the introduction of National Education system plan (1971- 1976 A.D). But most of the students fail in mathematics. So it is necessary to identify the cause of failure in this subject, because this is the great loss of the nation. To decrease the failure rate, CDC prepared teacher’s Guide to help teacher for elective teaching. Present study is concentrated to collect the attitudes of mathematics teachers teaching in primary level teachers the physical aspect, pedagogical aspect, helpful aspect and effectiveness of compulsory mathematics teacher’s guide for primary level. This study indented to accomplish the following objectives: To find out the attitudes of primary teachers towards teacher guide in mathematics. To compare the attitudes of community and institutional teachers about teacher’s guide. The above study was of survey type. To meet these objectives of the study the corresponding null hypothesis were fundamental and subjected to the empirical verification. This study was concluded in Jajarkot district. The sample of teachers for the study was selected from 30 primary schools of Jajarkotdistirc 15 form community and 15 from institutional the selection process was simple random sampling procedure . Questionnaire and structured interview were developed as the tool for collection data for the study. There were 30 statements with five options for the collection of data and at the end of questionnaire the suggestion for the better improvement of teachers guide were demanded. The researcher personally visited the selected school’s mathematics teachers for data collection. The attitude score was provided to the scale 5, 4, 3,2, and 1 for the options strongly agree, agree, undecided disagree and strongly disagree respectively for the option of respondents on each statement. vi To verify the hypothesis of the study following statistical techniques were applied: χ 2 - test was used to compute the attitude of teachers T- test was used to test the significance difference between two groups. All tests were tested at 0.05 level of significance. From the study, it was found that the mathematics teachers teaching at primary level have positive attitude towards teacher’s guide of compulsory mathematics for grade 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5.Item The Use of Mother Tongue in Teaching English at Primary Level(Faculty of Education Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur Kathmandu, Nepal, 2016) Sherpa, DikilaThis research work entitled The Use of Mother Tongue in Teaching English at Primary Level is an attempt to find out the role of using mother tongue for teaching English. This research also attempts to study the advantages and disadvantages of using mother tongue in teaching English. The researcher collected the data by distributing the questionnaires to altogether 20 parents and 20 teachers from six different primary schools of Taplejung district. The samples of this data were selected through purposive non- random sampling. Two sets of questionnaires were used to gather the data. The obtained data have been analyzed in order to meet the objectives of the study. The major finding shows that the role of mother tongue in teaching English at primary level is vital. The teachers used the mother tongue for cultural translation and breaking the monotony of the students in the classroom. Moreover, it has been perceived that mother tongue is used to find out the main idea of the text in shorter time but it hinders to develop communicative competence in the target language on the part of learners and students become habituated to learn only through mother tongue even in the great level (i.e. grade 6- 10). This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is introduction of the study. The introduction consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The chapter two deals the review of theoretical literature that consists of review of theoretical and empirical literature including conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter of this study consists of the methods and procedures of the study. The design of the study, population and sample, sampling procedure, data collection tools, data collection procedures also included in chapter three. Similarly, the fourth chapter includes the product of the analysis and interpretation of the data. Furthermore, chapter five includes conclusions and recommendations made based on the findings. Finally, the references and the appendixes, which are necessary for the validation of the research, have also presented.
