Item A Case Study on Expectations and Challenges Faced by Public Schools for the Implementation of EMI(Department of English Education, 2017) Gaire, Bishnu DeviAvailable with full textItem The Effect of Parental Occupation on their Children’s Achievement in Mathematics(Faculty of Education, 2011) Upadhya, Bhawani ShankarThis study has made to attempt to find out the effect of parental occupation on their children’s achievement in mathematics. For this study, two public schools were selected in convenience to the researcher. The students of grade IX were taken for the study. The study was based on descriptive as well as quantitative research design. The total number of students (108+48) were divided into four groups according to their parent’s occupation e.g. jobholder, businessmen, farmer and others with the help of record provided by the school administration and the information provided by the teachers. From the total students, 15 students in each group were selected by using proportional stratified random sampling. The scores of students were analyzed by using arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA at 0.05 level of significant. The facilities provided by the parents at home to their children were collected with the help of questionnaires given to students and parents which were compared with the achievement score of the children. Based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was found that the mean achievement score of children of jobholder was higher than businessmen, farmer and others. The achievement of the children of businessmen was better than farmers and others group. However, children of other occupational group have least achievement among them. The test showed the achievement of students differs according to their parent’s occupation. The result also showed that the facilities provided to their children are related to their parent’s occupation. The result also showed that the facilities and the time provide by the parents for their children's study are positively related to the students achievement.Item Job Satisfaction among Female Teachers in Public Schools in Pokhara(Department of Anthropology, 2019) Gurung, Kumari Bheem“The job satisfaction among the Female Teachers of Public Schools” is a study on different dimensions of teaching women. The prime aim of this study is to find out the teachers perception on ‘Job Satisfaction’ and to identify the factors which affect job satisfaction. Out of 33 wards in Pokhara Metropolitan city, four wards were selected purposively for this study. There are seven Public Schools in these study area where total numbers of female teachers are 113. In any context education has played a vital role for overall development of the society in the history of mankind. It is duly said that history of mankind is just the history of education. The study has focused on the perception of female teachers regarding job satisfaction. It has been found that job satisfaction according to female teachers isn’t restricted to only salary rather there are other factors as well which they considers the influencing factors. The research shows friendly and supportive colleagues, interesting job, good employee- employer relationship, flexible and safe working place as the most important factors for job satisfaction. Almost all of them wanted some support from their family members for the betterment in their professional lives. Even they desired some sharing in their work with their family members. They do like multiple roles because it proves their capability. But they found it much more when they are not able to manage their roles and responsible in hard times. If female teachers has Gender Responsive working Environment there exists democratic norms in performing school activities teachers would enjoy more freedom of work and turn, her job satisfaction would be better in the present study. Directly or indirectly every respondents accepts that they are stuffed with more work load and responsibilities. Problem faced by women is stress caused by role conflict or multiple roles. There is close relationship between their incomes and expenditure. Their volume of expenditure generally shows their living standard and either they are enjoying the qualitative lives or not. Most of the female teachers are not given the proper opportunities. Also they are facing the problem of underestimation towards them.Item Job Satisfaction among Female Teachers of Public Schools (A Sociological Study based on Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City)(Faculty of Sociology, 2018) Adhikari, Santosi“The job satisfaction Among the Primary Level Female Teachers of Public Schools” is a study on different dimensions of teaching women. The prime aim of this study is to find out the teachers’ perception on ‘Job Satisfaction’ and to identify the factors which affect job satisfaction. Out of 33 wards in Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan city six wards of eastern parts were selected purposively for this study.There are 49 public schools in this study area where total numbers of primary level female teachers are 118.Out of them 80 female teachers were surveyed and analyzed questionnaire was used and in depth interviews were conducted to collect primary data. Almost all of them wanted some support from their family members for the betterment in their professional lives. Even they desired some sharing in their work with their family members. They do like multiple roles because it proves their capability. But they found it much more challenging when they are not able to manage their roles in hard times. The school environment attributes: positive teacher relationships and support from school management were positively associated with teacher job satisfaction, whereas stress and the factor that female teachers often experienced gender bias, stereotyping, underestimation and discrimination in the workplace.So it blocks women empowerment. If female teacher has Gender Responsive working Environment there exists democratic norms in performing school activities teachers would enjoy more freedom of work, and turn, her job satisfaction would be better in the present study. The empirical study has found some factors which affect job satisfaction of female teachers. The Dependent variables are salary, academic qualification, reward, training, supervision, long holidays (Sick leave, annual leave, maternity leave, casual leave etc.), insurance, medical allowance, short working hours, working environment, motivation and culture etc. These factors affected the teachers depending on the different type of schools. Directly or indirectly every respondents accepts that they are stuffed with more work loads and responsibilities. Problem faced by women is stress caused by role conflict or multiple roles. A coping resource that has been found to reduce stress is social support. There is close relationship between their income and expenditure. Their volume of expenditure generally shows their living standard and either they are enjoying the qualitative lives or not. The participation in decision making is found better because majority of them said that they participate in decision making at school. Most of the female teachers are not given the proper opportunities. Also they are facing the problem of underestimation towards them. The living standard and their participation are found to be better. Their functional participation in decision making on family matters also shows that there is good influence of professionalism on them. This study was based on case study approach under the qualitative research method. The study was based on only in Kathmandu district. From the research it was found that the home environment of the students of urban schools in learning mathematics is much better than that of the students of rural schools is not good. The physical area of the rural school was small and limited facilities while the physical area of the urban school was large and wide facilities. The financial standard of urban school students was higher than that of rural schools students. The female students of urban schools were found to be more active in mathematics studies comparison to that of rural school. In urban school, while teaching mathematics, the teacher was found to be using student-centered method, problem solving method and demonstration method. In rural public schools, other teaching methods have also been used, but more and more lecture methods have been used. Some of the culture of teaching mathematics was found to be similar in urban and rural schools. In the both public schools, the operating system, the environment for teaching mathematics in the school, some facilities for learning, language difficulties, the ways in which students learn mathematics were found to be similar. Specifically, formative assessment as a tool of assessingstudents' learning during the teaching and how lower secondary Englishteachers are practicing formative assessment in public schools for continuousevaluation of thestudents.To meet theobjectives of the research, thirtyinformants were selected usingnon-randompurposivesamplingstrategy fromlower secondary level English teachers of public schools of Bardiya district. Aquestionnaire consisting ofboth closed-endedand open-ended questions wasused as thedata collection tool. The data wereanalyzed and interpreteddescriptively and statistically. The result of thestudyrevealed thatall theteachershave positive attitudesonformative assessment. Similarly,all100%teachers usedformative assessment and its tools like classwork, homework,weekly test, unit test, terminal exams, portfolio and project worktoevaluate thedifferent ability of the learners like physical, psychological and classroomparticipation. Thepresent study consists of five main chapters. The first chapter deals withthe introduction of the studyalong with the background of the study, statementof the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of thestudy, delimitations of the study and operational definitionsofthekey terms.The second chapter contains the review of related literature andconceptualframework. At the end, thereferences and appendices are included.Item Reading Comprehension Ability of Secondary Level Students of Private and Public Schools(Department of English Education, 2017) Rai, AnuThe study entitledReading Comprehension Ability of Secondary LevelStudents of Private and Public Schoolsto findout the readingcomprehension ability ofsecondary levelstudents of private and public schoolstudents and compare and contrast between private and public school studentsreading comprehension. The two unseen reading textsof sixty marks were usedasa tool which wasfollowed by questions on the basis of literal, lexical andapplied comprehension. Thirty students from private and thirty students frompublic schoolsfrom Ilam district were selected by using random purposivesampling strategy. From the analysis of the obtained data it wasfound that thereading comprehension ability of private school studentswasbetter than thoseof public school students. The collected data showed that thirty students out ofthirty students passed in the test from privateschool whereas only nineteenstudents passed out of thirty students from public school. The private schoolstudents’ lexical, literal and applied comprehensions are better than those ofpublic school students. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Thefirst chapter is introductory partwhich consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectivesof the study, research questions, significance of the study, and operationaldefinition of the key terms. In the same way, ,the chapter twodeals with thereview of related literature and conceptual framework which incorporatesreview of theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implicationsofthe review for the study and conceptual framework for the study. References and appendices have been included at the end ofthe research.Item Situation of english medium instruction in community schools(Department of English Education, 2022) Pathak, SangitaThis research work entitled Situation of English Medium Instruction in Community Schoolsis an attempt to explore the practice of EMI and its perceived impact on students’ learning achievement and to suggest some pedagogical implications in public school. The researcher adopted the qualitative research design. The sample of the study included two primary schools where EMIhas been implemented. In order to achieve answer the questions raised in the study, the researcher used interview and classroom observation as tools tocollect required data. The data for the study came from six classobservations and interview with six teachers and two head masters of the selected school. From the analysis and interpretation of the collected data, it was found that, the situation of EMI in community schools was not effective. The teachers perceived that students' learning achievement were decreasing day by day because of EMI. The students could not understand the subject matter effectively and obtained very low marks in examination because of EMI. Even if they knew the answer, theycould not perform wellin examination because of language barrier. In this regard, teachers limited English language proficiency, lack of instructional materials, the use of translated books, and English medium examinations were the basic elements that negatively impactedon students’ learning achievements. This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter one is introductory chapter, which includes background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study and operational definition of the key terms. Chapter two consists of review of the related theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and the conceptual framework of the research. Chapter three deals with methodology and procedures adopted to carry out the research. It consists design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis andinterpretation procedures and ethical considerations. Similarly, chapter four encompasses the analysis of the data and the interpretation of results. Chapter five consists of the findings, conclusion, and recommendations of the study.
