Item Feminist Perspective In The Translated Novel Rupamati(Department of English, 2021) Shrestha, MerinaThis is a study on Feminist Perspective in the Translated Novel Rupamati. The 'Rupamati ' is a novel written by Rudra Raj Pandey which was published in 1991 B. S. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze feminist issues in terms of socio-cultural and religious aspect, gender aspect, domination upon women by both male and female, violence against women perpetrated by men, violence against women committed by other women, role and place of women in the society and role of patriarchy in the novel Rupamati. This study embodies forty-nine different extractions as sample to analyze and interpret the issues in feminism. To widen the knowledge and insights in the related area, I have used different related articles, books, dictionaries, theses and reference materials. I read and re-read the original and translated novel. I selected some of the female issues related extracts/sentences as data through purposive sampling strategy. The data were analyzed to achieve the objective of the study. It was based on qualitative approach because the study was related to document analysis. The major finding of this study showed that females have been dominated and discriminated in the society due to social, cultural and religious beliefs and ideology. Similarly, the household works that women do in the house are not valued in the society. In patriarchal society, women have to worship their husband as god and served him with great honor. Women are physically and emotionally abused by their husband in patriarchal society. In the society, females have been dominated and exploited not only be males but also by females too. The present study consists of five chapters along with reference and appendix at the end. Each chapter is divided into necessary heading and sub-headings. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of the problems, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, de-limitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter consists of review of the related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter includes the design of the study, population and sampling strategy, sources of data, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedures, and ethical considerations. Similarly, the fourth chapter consists of analysis of the data and interpretation of results and findings. The fifth chapter presents the conclusion and recommendations of the study.Item A Study on Semanantic Equivalence: A Case of Translated Novel ‘Rupamati’(2012) Tiwari, SudipThis research work entitled A study on Semantic Equivalence: A Case of Translated Novel ‘Rupamati’ has been carried out to analyze the semantic equivalence through sentence level between the source text (henceforth: ST) and translated text (henceforth: TT). The source of data consists of the original Nepali text and its translated English version Rupamati. The ST and TT are deemed as sample universe. From this, the selection of the sample size consists of sixty pairs of sentences from both texts. For sampling procedure, the random sampling method has been applied. The different tools such as observation, checklist and syntactic structure and semantic analysis have been used for the data analysis. It is found that the translator has carefully chosen different lexical item in TT to fulfill semantic equivalence. Sometimes, the translator himself gets derailed and the work of translation cannot meet the semantic equivalence. The translator has sometimes used extra lexical item which is not found in ST. It is found that, the translator has split the syntactic structure of the compound sentence into two in TT. It is also found that the translator has mostly omitted exclamatory marker in TT whereas the ST exclamatory sentences contain it. This thesis comprises four chapters. Chapter one deals with general introduction, review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with method and procedure adopted to carry out the research. It contains information on the source of data, sampling procedures, tools, process of data collection and limitation of the study. Chapter three consists of the analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four deals with the major findings of the study on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. It also deals with some recommendations made, based on the major findings of the study. Finally, chapter four is followed by the references and appendices.
