Item Implementation of semester system in mathematics education: Challenges and opportunity(Department of Mathematics Education, 2022) Tiwari, PujaThis is a qualitative research on the topic entitled “Implementation of Semester System in Mathematics Education: Challenges and Opportunity”. The objective of this study was to explore the existing practices of the semester system, the major challenges and opportunity of the semester system and process of making semester system students friendly. The study site of this research is Central Department of Mathematics Education, Tribhuvan University Kirtipur Kathmandu. Purposive sampling method was used to select representative respondent. Open and in-depth interview, classroom observation, and FGD, were the tools adopted for collection of information. The collected data were analyzed according to general inductive method and on the basis of my conceptual framework. The major findings of this research indicate it is necessary for students to qualify the entrance exam for admission in the Central Department of Mathematics Education which is conducted by Dean Office. Similarly, the number students enrolling in semester system has decreased. There is the practice of internal evaluation which is conducted by the teachers for 40 marks, out of the 100 marks with specific criteria. There is the practice of external evaluation which is conducted by the Dean Office for 60 marks, out of the 100 marks. Similarly, there is more utilization of the student centered methods and digital tools. The main challenges of semester are conducting delayed exams, lengthy course content, unavailability of curriculum-based books and experimental materials, copying and pasting the teachers notes, never explain the use and application of theorem, centralized practices of curriculum formation, less practice of open question in mathematics classroom etc. The main opportunity of semester system are study mathematics in Visualise Method by using various and advanced software’s, well-fascilitated ICT lab, learn different mathematical software’s like Geogebra, Mathematica, Latex etc.,large video conferencing studio, to Book Review, Writing, Seminar Paper, Literature Review, Proposal and Thesis, get scholarships provided by the UGC and being excellence researcher. It is found that making semester system students friendly need to focus on course content, full authenticity to the teachers, student-centered teaching methods, group works, allow students to present their seminar papers in a conference and timely exam according to the operational calendar formation by Dean office.Item Master of Arts in Social Work (Semester System)(Curriculum Development Center, TU, 2013) Curriculum Development Center, TUItem Master of English Curriculum(Curriculum Development Center, TU, 2014) Curriculum Development Center, TUItem Master of Science in Statistics Curriculum(Curriculum Development Center, TU, 2013) Curriculum Development Center, TUItem Role of semester system in developing presentation skills in English(Department of English Education, 2022) Maharjan, TrishalaThis study is entitled the Role of Semester System in Developing Presentation Skills in English. The aims of this study were to find out how semester system helps in developing presentation skills in English, students' attitudes towards semester system in developing presentation skills and also to suggest some pedagogical implications based on findings. I used random sampling method and a survey research design. Forty students were selected as participants by simple random sampling procedure from Department of English Education, Kirtipur. In order to obtain the objectives, close ended and open ended questionnaire were made. The data were analyzed statistically and thematically, the results revealed positive perspectives of the participants on how semester system helped in developing presentation skills and for the better understanding and demonstration of content review, specific classroom presentation, to attract students' attention in learning. Furthermore, it was found that there was use of learner-centered technique in course of teaching and learning activities. Most of the participants viewed that there was a need of curriculum which consists of both theoretical and practical aspects. It was important in terms of use of the ICT. Mainly learner-centered method was focused and students developed different skills. The study also suggested that the proper designing of slides, administrative support, interaction with students, training are essential for the effectiveness of semester system in developing presentation skills in ELT classroom. This thesis includes five chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction including background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Chapter two deals with review of related literature and conceptual framework which consists of review of related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Chapter three deals with methods and procedures of the study including design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation and ethical consideration. Similarly, chapter four deals with analysis of data and interpretation of the results. Likewise, chapter five deals with findings, conclusion, and recommendations. Finally, the references and appendices are included at the end of this work respectively.Item Students' perception towards the internal assessment in semester system(Department of Mahematics Education, 2023) Bastola, TikaramThis thesis entitled "Student Perception Towards the Internal Assessment in Semester System" is a demanding topic of the research. The main objectives of this study were to explore the student's perception towards the internal assessment system in mathematics education and to analyze the improvement process of internal assessment system in mathematics education. This study was based on a mixed- method research design. This study was delimited within the Kathmandu valley. This study was based on Master level student who studied in semester system. A total of 110 sample students were selected by stratified sampling from three different colleges for questionnaire and among them 6 students by purposive sampling for interview. In this study questionnaire and interview guidelines were the tools of data collection. This study found that students were very positive towards the internal assessment system. But dissatisfied with the process of internal assessment system. This study found that, 80% compulsory participation was not followed by all the college. Similarly, this study found that presentation is very essential tool to develop the teaching skill to all the student. This study also found that, home assignment is knowledge expanding factor of our assignment system. This study also found that, internal exam (class-test) was conducted as in summative manner rather than formative manner. This study also found that, authorities were not properly disseminating the internal assessment system to all the students, teacher and all the colleges. It was also found that, students follow the rules, teachers to be sincere, administration support to both student and teacher, university conduct orientation programme to all the teachers, will help to improve the assessment system in mathematics educations.Item Students' Perceptions Towards Assignments and Their Practices in Semester System(Department of English Education, 2019) Dhami, Man BahadurThe present study entitled Students' Perception Towards Assignment and their Practice in Semester System aimed to find out students' perception and their practices towards assignment in semester system and to explore the challenges faced by the semester students. I selected forty students of M.Ed second semester students studying at University campus, Kirtipur, Kathmandu. A set of questionnaire was used as research tool for collecting the required data. The respondents were selected by using random sampling strategy. It was found that almost all the second semester students had positive attitude towards the assignment and its practice. They argued that assignment enhances students' skill and built up confidence and developed critical knowledge and skill. Similarly, most of the students responded that they involve in effective reading and note taking while doing assignment. This study comprises of five chapters. Chapter one deals with introduction, background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research question, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definition of the key terms. Likewise, chapter two concerns with review of the literature, review of empirical literature, implication of the review of the study and conceptual framework adopted for the study. Similarly, chapter three includes the methodology used in this study: design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategies, research tools, source of data, data collection procedures, data analysis procedures and ethical consideration. Whereas, chapter four consists of analysis and interpretation of data and chapter five includes findings, conclusion and recommendations followed by references and appendices
