Item Endorsement of American Imperialism in Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down(Department of English, 2020) Chaurel, KshitijThis research paper examines Ridley Scott’s movie Black Hawk Down to show its role in endorsing American imperialism.It further explores how the use of advanced movie making technologies serve for the filmmaker’s own politics of legitimizing American intervention in the internal affair of Somalia.It also shows the way this movie carries the state-sponsored line of thought which put sit in the basket of propaganda tool to persuade people for approval of American brand of democracy. This paper combines both film theory and post-Marxist approach, especially of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe,Stuart Hall, and Shaobo Xie for the analysis of the movie.This research paper concludes that this movie misrepresents Somalis as well as the incident of Mogadishu for hidden politics of the movie maker.Ridley Scott’s attempt to show American soldiers’ death as a form of martyrdom and that of Somaliancitizensas futile job proves his position as an agent of America for endorsing its imperial mission.Such movie needs to be watched with critical perspective.In short,the finding of the research shows Scott’s advocacy of American imperialism in Black Hawk Down. The novel describe the event of the Civil Rights Movement, the laws of segregation and intimidation and Taking theoretical insights on Historiographic Metafiction as proposed by Linda Hutcheon, and Hyden white this study reveals how this novel critique blurs the distinction between fact and fiction and presents the critique of racial stereotyping present in American society. A new rule has been set under the Civil Rights Movement according to this every citizen irrespective of class; creed or color will have access to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness through individual effort. This research concludes that The Help not only presents the history by narrating the story through the old maid but also analyses the history through the present day situation and the text revisits history by revising and questioning it.Item Representation of Chuck as a National Allegory in H.M. Naqvi's Home Boy(Department of English, 2022) Devkota, AavashRepresentation of Chuckas a National Allegory in H.M Naqvi's Home Boy The novel,Home Boy by H.M Naqvi, tells the story of Pakistanimen who migrate to America to fulfill their dream of freedom and prosperity. The novel is set during tragic event of 9/11 terrorist attack on USA and in volves the after math faced by Muslim citizens with no stalgic autobiographical representation of past, in form of sharing memories hugely associated with Pakistan. The concept of ‘home’ is highly stressed in the novel. The title Home Boy itself contradicts regularly in the text. The space between the character's present and his home is maintained by association of his home and home land memories.So, the research investigates Chuck's role in the formation of the meaning of the textin light of Fredric Jameson's theory of allegory and ideology. Naqviin his novelusesChuckasnational allegoryto represent the various elements experienced by immigrants away from their home land and to put forth the American response to the 9/11 event. He uses memories and nostalgic representation of past associated with the homeland of experiencing agent to deploy the meaning. Most common elements represented are hardships, fear, suppression, racism, stereotyping, inequalities,issues of identity andinhumane treatment suffered by the immigrants.
