Item Parents’ and Students’ Perceptions on the Importance of Teaching and Learning English(Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University Kirtipur, 2016) Khatri, Dhan KumarThis research work entitled Parents’ and Students’ Perceptions on the Importance of Teaching and Learning English is an attempt to explore the perceptions of secondary level students towards the importance of learning English in terms of carrier opportunity, social recognition, economic enhancement, language and cultural issues and English for self-satisfaction and self-esteem and to find out the perceptions of parents‟ towards the importance of teaching and learning English to their children. I selected 20 secondary level students and 20 parents from 2 secondary schools of Udayapur district as sample for this study. Ten secondary level students were selected from each sample school. Non-random judgemental sampling procedure was used to select schools, students and parents. Questionnaire and interview were used to collect the data for this study. The findings of the study showed that learning English offers a good career prospect. Moreover, findings showed that learning English; people have lots of opportunities in the fields like business, tourism, medicine and teaching profession. In the same way, secondary level students agreed that good competence in English language provides better opportunities to the people for doing trade and business internationally. Similarly, findings showed that the parents were interested towards the importance of teaching and learning English to their children as English works as a link language that helps the people to travel and trade internationally and as English is necessary to work in the fields like tourism and diplomacy This thesis is organized into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter includes review of related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Similarly, the third chapter includes design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, study areas, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Likewise, the fourth chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of results, i.e. 4.1 and the fifth chapter includes conclusions and recommendations at three different areas (policy related, practice related and further research related) followed by references and appendices.Item Role of semester system in developing presentation skills in English(Department of English Education, 2022) Maharjan, TrishalaThis study is entitled the Role of Semester System in Developing Presentation Skills in English. The aims of this study were to find out how semester system helps in developing presentation skills in English, students' attitudes towards semester system in developing presentation skills and also to suggest some pedagogical implications based on findings. I used random sampling method and a survey research design. Forty students were selected as participants by simple random sampling procedure from Department of English Education, Kirtipur. In order to obtain the objectives, close ended and open ended questionnaire were made. The data were analyzed statistically and thematically, the results revealed positive perspectives of the participants on how semester system helped in developing presentation skills and for the better understanding and demonstration of content review, specific classroom presentation, to attract students' attention in learning. Furthermore, it was found that there was use of learner-centered technique in course of teaching and learning activities. Most of the participants viewed that there was a need of curriculum which consists of both theoretical and practical aspects. It was important in terms of use of the ICT. Mainly learner-centered method was focused and students developed different skills.The study also suggested that the proper designing of slides, administrative support, interaction with students, training are essential for the effectiveness of semester system in developing presentation skills in ELT classroom. This thesis includes five chapters. Finally, the references and appendices are included at the end of this work respectively.Item Strategies Used By Novice Teachers In Teaching Essays at Higher Secondary Level(Faculty of Education Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur Kathmandu, Nepal, 2016) Shrestha, NamunaThe present research study entitled "Strategies used by Novice Teachers in Teaching Essays at Higher Secondary Level" aimed to find out classroom strategies used by higher secondary level novice teachers in teaching essays. To meet the objectives of this research study, I selected 10 higher secondary level novice English teachers and 30 students from 10 higher secondary level schools of Udayapur district by using purposive non-random sampling. From each school, one teacher and three students were selected. I observed three classes of each novice teacher. Teacher‟s practices and strategies used in the classroom to teach essays were observed, critically analyzed and interpreted using simple statistical tools like tabulation and description. Similarly, students' views towards their novice teachers' classroom strategies were collected through survey questionnaire. Classroom observation checklist and questionnaire were used to collect the data for this study. The findings of thisstudy showed that novice teachers employed different activities diversely. It was found that there were not any fixed strategies in teaching essays. The strategies were different from one teacher to another. The most of the novice teachers were found satisfactory in teaching activities. The novice teachers‟ use of pictures, magazine cut outs, documentary, native speakers' recorded voices and focus on communicative approach, motivation, role play, mentoring to teach essays. Finding out the students' attitudes towards the use of social media in learning is the main objective of the study. It also analyzes the usefulness of social network to improving learning of students and to suggest some pedagogical implications. The study is based on survey research design and both secondary and primary sources of data were used. Findings and conclusion of this study has been made on the basis of primary data. It is found that social media is one of the important platform for students to learn English during COVID-19 pandemic. Students enhance their English through using social media like face book, YouTube video and other Google materials. Increasing trend of using information technology students used online medium like messenger, YouTube, zoom etc. After COVID -19 pandemic schools managed internet facilities and enhance the e- learning situation of schools. Students are also involved in social media to learn English. They have mixed perception on use social media in teaching learning activities. Except few cases students positively take the using of social media in teaching learning activities. In COVID-19 pandemic period, Nepal government prepared policy for online class but there is lack of training and devices so the government should provide computer , projector , internet facilitates to sue online class through social media. Government should make proper mechanism to handle social media and screen the unnecessary content. This thesis has been categorized into five chapters. Likewise, fifth chapter presents conclusion and recommendations.Item Students’ Attitude Towards Semester System Implementation(Departement Of Mathemathics Education Central Departement Of Education University Campus, Kirtipur Tribhuvan University Kathmandu, Nepal, 2016) Dangi, NavarajThis is a survey research related to the master's level students' attitude towards semester system at University Campus, Tribhuvan University. The prime concern of this study is to explore the Students Attitude Towards Semester System Implementation. The objectives of this study were to find out the attitude of master's level students’ towards implementation of semester system and to compare the attitude of students’ discipline wise. For this study the researcher select of students by taking through random sampling 120 students and with 30 students of per faculties with 34 responses of the questionnaire. The collected data were organized, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted by using the statistical tools such as Weighted Mean and Chi-square test. After analysis and interpretation of the obtained data, the finding indicates the student of semester system have positive attitude towards semester system. And finding also indicates there is no any significance difference between the attitudes of students of different faculties’ viz. Education, Humanities, Management and Science. Researcher was tried to find out the students attitude with different domain (Students' Attitude Towards Semester System, Comparison of university students’ attitude towards semester system faculty wise, Thematic Comparison of attitude of students on the basis of weighted mean). So, the attitude in the average is positive towards semester system.Item Students’ Attitudes Towards Studyingliterature(Faculty of Education, 2009) Khatry, IshwarThis study entitled “Students’ Attitudes Towards Studying Literature”was an attempt to findout the attitudes of the students towards the course‘Teaching English Literature’ ( Eng. Ed. 392) prescribed for the studentsof B.Ed. third year as an elective subject majoring in English Education.The researcher selected eighty students of M.Ed. firstyear majoring inEnglish, Faculty of Education, T.U. Kirtipur. One set of questionnaireconsisting of both closed-ended and open-ended questions was providedin order to collect their attitudes towards the course. On the basis of thecollected data, theattitudes of the students were determined, analyzed andtabulated. The main findings of the study showed that the course has bothstrong and weak aspects. The strong aspects are greater in number thanweaker ones. As a whole, the students had positive attitudes towards thecourse. The researcher found that the course TEL (Eng. Ed. 392) has beenquite useful for teaching learning language as well as to know about theworld and historical development of literature and study other subjectswritten in English.It is very practical, useful and interesting for thestudents which encourage them to study and make active participation inconversation to develop communicative competence.The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with introduction.It consists of general background of the study, review of the relatedliterature, objectives of the study, significance of the study, anddefinitions of the specific terms. Similarly, chapter two introduces themethodology adopted for the study. It incorporates sources of data,population of study, sampling procedures, and tools for data collection,processes of data collection and the limitations of the study. Likewise,chapter three consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. Finally,Chapter four incorporates findings and recommendations.
