Item English as a Drop Out Factor for Tamang Children in Makawanpur District(2017) Pudasaini, SamrachanaThis thesis entitled English as a Drop out Factor forTamang Children in Makawanpur District is prepared to find out whether English as adrop out factor forTamang Children in Makawanpur District. The survey research design was used.The data were collected from twenty students, five parents and five teachers of Makawanpur district which were selected by using purposive non-random sampling procedure. Data were elicited using a set of questionnaire including both open-ended and close-ended questions. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted qualitatively and quantitatively. The main findings of the study is that they left the school because of language problems, many children in family, disinterest in studies, supporting role for the family, discouraging the teacher behavior, school environment is not good and they cannot understand English well because of English is hard for them. This research consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Likewise, second chapter consists ofreview of related literature i.e. theoretical and empirical, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework of the research. Similarly, third chapter deals with methodology adopted to carry out the research. It consists of research design, population, sample and sampling strategies, research tools, study area, data collection procedure and ethical consideration of the study. In the same way, the fourth chapter encompasses analysis and interpretation of the results. Similarly, the fifth chapter consists of the findings, conclusion and recommendations of the study and followed by references and appendices.Item Forms of Requesting and Advising in Tamang and English(Department of English Education, 2012) Koirala, GovindaThis research entitled “Forms of Requesting and Advising in Tamang and English“has tried to find out the forms of requesting and advising in Tamang language and to compare and contrast with those of the English language. In this research work the researcher collected the data from Tamang native speakers of both male and female from Vedpu VDC of Dolakha district. The data were collected from 30 native speakers using quota sampling. The researcher selected the informants athis convenience and asked them to select others who could give him more information then he collected them. The data were collected with the help of questionnaires and interviews. The sources of data for English were based on different books, theses, dictionaries and articles.The comparisons were made between Tamang and English language to find out their similarities and differences being based on “Tamang-English dictionary” developed by Nepal Tamang Ghedung. The collected data were compared using simple statistical tools like table, percentage etc. By comparing and analyzing the data the research found that both English and Tamang speakers use the formal and polite forms of language with father, uncle, guests, strangers and use informal and impolite language with juniors, lower level people like bus helper, wife, friends while requesting and advising. It is also found that Tamang speakers use direct form like ordering while requesting with guests, senior family members but English speakers request them politely. Moreover it is also found that female Tamang speakers use more polite language than male speakers do. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background, review of related literature, objectives and significance of the study.The second chapter consists the methodology in which the sources of data,sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study are included. Similarly chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretations of the data and the chapter four comprises the findings and recommendations of the study. Finally the references and appendices are included.Item Semantic Analysis of Tamang and English Verbs(Department of English Education, 2009) Tamang, Ranjan RajThis Study entitled A Semantic Analysis of English and Tamang Verbsdealswith the systematic analysis of some verbs in the English and Tamang Languages. The data was collected from primary as well as different secondary sources. To collect data from primary sources such ascheck list, structured questionnaire and unstructured interviews were used. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted in terms of correlation of meaning, divergence and convergence of meaning, semantic inclusion and semantic overlapping. Themain findings of this study show that the English and Tamang verbs have complete correlation of meaning in a very few cases and there is high degree of presence of divergence and convergence of meanings across languages. The lack of total semantic overlapping and equivalences in the semantic system of selected words in these two languages was also found. This study has been divided into four chapters: The first chapter ‘introduction ’includes general background, review of the related literature, and objectives of the study, significance of the study and definition of the specific terms. Chapter two ‘methodology’ includes sources of data collection,sampling procedure,tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the data.Chapter three includes the ‘analysis and interpretation of the collected data’.Chapter four includes the findings and recommendations.Item Tense Systems in English and Tamang Languages(Department of English Education, 2012) Khatiwada, Bhola NathThe researcher in his thesis entitled“Tense System in Tamang and English Languages”tries to identify tenses in Tamang, and compare and contrast these with those of English.The researcher collected data from Tamang native speakers of Anaikot VDC of Kavrepalanchok district. The researcher used the secondary sources for the data of English tenses.The tenses identified in Tamang arePastand Non Past (Present and Future). The comparison shows that both languages have bipartite tense system. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the languages of Nepal, introduction to the Tamang language,importance of CAin language teaching, basic concepts of tense, marking system in tense, tense system, review of the related literature, objectives of the study,significance of the study. The second chapter is related to the methodology applied to carry out the research, it deals with the sources of data,sampling procedure,tools for data collection, processes of data collection, and limitations of the study.The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data. The researcher has used descriptive method to compareand contrast the Tamang and English cases with examples. The fourth chapter deals with the findings and recommendations. On the basis of the findings some recommendations have been made for pedagogical implications.Item Verbal Affixation in English and Tamang(Department of English Education, 2009) Ghising, PadamThis present research entitled ‘Verbal Affixation in English and Tamang’ is aneffort to describe, compare and contrast theverbal affixation in English and theTamang languages. In order to carry out this study, the researcher collecteddata from the native speakers of the Tamang language in Panchthar district.Data for the English language were obtained from the reference books. Thetotal sample population of the study consisted of 80 Tamang speakers whowere selected by using stratified random sampling procedure and judgmentalsampling procedure. The main tool the researcher made use of wasquestionnaire, which was filled inby making a face to face interview with theinformants.The major findingof this research isthat Tamang uses the affixessuch as/a-/, /-pa/,-ba/, /-la/, /-mula/, /-pan/, /-ban/, /-pala/, /-bala/, /-ci/, /-zi/, /-cim/, /-zim/, /-bar/, /-u/, /-go/, /-ge/, /-gai/, etc. The thesis consists of four chapters altogether.Chapter oneis an introductorychapter which deals with the background ideas as to the study of the topic. Itsets the necessary theoretical background, justifies the significance of the studyand presents the objectives and limitations of the study.Similarly,chapter twostates the methodology followed in the study. It deals with the sources of data,population and sampling procedure, and process of data collection andlimitation of the study.Chapter threeentails analysis and interpretation ofdata. It deals with the description, comparison of the verbal affixation availablein both English andtheTamang languages. The analysis has been done underdifferent headings using descriptive-comparative structural procedures.Finally,chapter fourdeals with the findings and recommendation made inlight of analysis and interpretation. It presents the areas in which verbalaffixation system differs in the two languages. It also includesrecommendations from the perspective of pedagogical significance.
