Item Difficultiesin Reading Comprehension(Department of English Education, 2011) Baral, NeetaThe present study entitled "Difficulties in Reading Comprehension" wascarried out with the aim to find out the problem faced by secondary levelstudents in reading comprehension and causes of students' poor readingcomprehension. In order tofulfil the objectives of the study, 60 secondary levelstudents and 20 English teachers of the same level were selected from the 20schools of the Kaski district through purposive sampling procedure. Two setsof questionnaire were the research tools for eliciting the required informationfor the study. The data collected were analyzed and interpreted to find outdifficulties in reading comprehension and its causes. It was found that thesecondary level students of Kaski district had major difficulty to understand themeaning of vocabulary items in reading comprehension. They also faced theproblem of language structure. The main causes behind this was lack ofpersistency and motivation. This thesis is organized in four chapters. The first chapter deals withgeneralbackground, importance of reading, reading comprehension, types of reading,techniques of teaching reading comprehension, stages in teaching reading,problems revealed from reading comprehension, factors affecting readingcomprehension, review ofthe related literature, objectives and significance ofstudy. The second chapter is concerned with the methodology used in thestudy, under which sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for datacollection, process of data collection and limitations ofthe study are described.The third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of data. This chapter consists of two sub-sections. The first sub-section deals with analysis of questionnaire to the students. The second sub-section deals with the analysis of questionnaire to the teachers. The final chapter deals with the major findingsand recommendations of the study.Item Teaching Techniques Used By English Teachers(Department of English Education, 2009) Baniya, Bam BahadurThe title of the research work is ‘Teaching Techniques Used by English Teachers’ inpublic and private schools. The main purpose of this study was to find out the teachingtechniques used by English teachers and compare them between the scools in question.To accomplish this study,a list of techniques for class observations and interviewschedule for the teachers were prepared to collect data from the secondary schools ofLalitpur district. The data collected from the informants were analyzed and interpreted tofind out the techniques used by them. It was found that teachers of private schools usedmore learner-centered techniques than public ones. The study consists of four chapters .Chapter one introduces the study in terms of generalbackground, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of thestudy and definition of the specific terms. Similarly, chapter two deals with themethodology applied to conduct the study. This consists of the sources of data,population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitations of the study. Likewise, chapter three deals with theanalysis andinterpretation of the data obtained from the informants. The data were analyzed andinterpreted by using simple statistical tools and displayed with the help of tables, chartsand diagrams. Finally, chapter four deals with the findings and recommendations of thestudy.Item Techniques Used In Teaching Poetry At Secondary Level(Faculty of English Education, 2018) Lamjel, LalitThe main aim of conducting this study is to investigate the most preferred techniques and the least preferred techniques by the learners in teaching poetry among various techniques at the Secondary Level. The researcher selected a school and forty students of grade- 9 from the school. They were chosen by using simple random sampling procedure. For collection data, the researcher used a set of questionnaire including the open- ended and close-ended questions for students on other hand classroom observation, discussion,interview, group discussion. materials were used. The researcher teaches the grade nine students using various techniques such as teacher-centered and students-centered techniques different poems of grade-nine text. Teachers have been used mostly teacher-centered techniques in teaching those poetry; like lecturing, theme description, giving note and which really brothers in learning poetry students do not show any activeness in class, teachers are active students show less interest. Those student- centered techniques are beneficial for students; these techniques are highly preferred by students they completely engage in learning. This report consists of five chapters. Chapter one deals with the background of the study, statement of the problems, objectives of the study, Significance of the study, delimitation of the study, and operational definition of the key terms.Chapter two consists of review of theoretical literature, review of the empirical literature, implication of the study and conceptual frame work. Chapter three consists of the design and method of the study, population and sample and sampling strategy, study areas, data collection tools and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Chapter four deals with the analysis of data,interpretation of the results and summary of the findings. Chapter five is about the conclusion and recommendations have been made on the basis of the findings. Beside main chapters, the supportive materials such as references,questionnaire, tables and charts are used during the research they are presented in the appendixes of the thesis.
