Village tourism is a means of sustainable tourism development; it refers to tourists staying in or near village, of traditional village in remote areas and learning about the village way of life. This kind of tourism involves provision of local style Accommodation, locally produced food items on tourists and the organizations of tourist participation in village activities. This study gives the real picture of tourism activities in Jamunkhadi area of Jhapa District. Among the various tourism areas in Jahpa Jamunkhadi area of Surunga VDC is also one of the potential tourism area. Views of wetland, Jamun lake, peace forest, picnic sports its Surrounding Community forest and pasture land, Sightseeing, boating, mini zoo, observation of endangered animals like python, bear, dear, leopard, tiger, brown fish, owl, porcupine, vulture, peacock stork, Guinea pig, Rabbit, wild cat, flora and fauna Cultural diversity etc. are main tourism products of Jamunkhadi area. The objectives of the study are to identify the existing major tourism products of the Jamunkhadi area to explore the Jamunkhadi as a as a major tourism destination of Jhapa. Therefore, this study is helpful for those people who take interest in Village based tourism development planners as well as local planners to emphasis upon it. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. More specifically, it is based on primary data and information which is collected by researcher himself with the help of different data collection tools and technique. 50 households and 8 hotels were taken for sample size from Jamunkhadi region and 20 tourists of different countries are also interviewed. For this purpose simple random sample random sampling method has been used in survey of tourism and households and purposive sampling method has been applied for hotel survey. However, secondary source of data and information has been used wherever they needed. Jamunkhadi has enormous tourism products to have attracted the tourist. It god gifted natural assets great interest for the tourist. But there are so many problems to develop tourism due to the lack of basic infrastructures. The existing 8 local level hotels with poor facilities are not sufficient to provide the services for present demands of tourists. In present time hoteliers are benefited mainly by the domestic tourists. Tourist's view of tourism development in this area is optimistic. There is good possibility of tourism in and around the Jamunkhadi near future. Although, sample tourists evaluate most of the existing infrastructure are in general condition. viii Ethnic diversity is found in the study area. Historical tribes Sherpa and their culture are one of the attractions for tourists. There is lack of well - equipped hotels to stay in the study area but the local community is providing homes service providing capable houses are found about 64 in Jamunkhadi. I n the view of its potential for the tourism development, local community seen to be more interested to develop this area jointly as a tourist destination. They see the good prospects of tourism in future. The main problems associated with tourism in the study area are lack of transportation, accommodation, skilled manpower, effective tourism plan, security service, advertisement, publicity and etc. Thus it is necessary for the development of tourism infrastructures to develop tourism in the study area as shown by the output of the research.Item Problems and potentialities of village tourism in Nepal ( A case study of Lele village of Lalitpur District)(Department of Rural Development, 2016) Nepali, Suman KumarTourism is one of the leading industries in the world where as Nepal is certainly not at a position to avoid its benefits. Nepal is country made of villages where more than 86% peoples live in the village. Tourism is such an investment which can provide immense benefit to countries comparatively at a low cost. Village tourism is newly developing concept in tourism where tourist can feel and experience the life style of local culture, nature and environment. The concept of village tourism had been emerged by Dr. Surendra Bhakta Pradhananga, who is known as father of village tourism in Nepal. This study is made in Lele VDC in Lalitpur district with the general objectives of analysis of potentiality of village tourism in the study area and its problem and prospects. This study is based on both primary and secondary data. Lele village offers its traditional cultural life style, scenic beauty and hospitality to tourists. This study has tried to assess the tourism related knowledge among the locals, socio economic status problems and prospects of village tourism. Total number of population recorded in Lele is 8411. Economy of the area is agro-based. This study has adopted explorative as well as descriptive research design and has analyzed with both qualitative and quantitative approach. Both primary and secondary data has been used as a source for the analysis. Basic infrastructures such as roads, communication, drinking water supply, health service and security measures are in existence. However they need to be upgraded. Based on the attractions available at Lele associated activities for the tourists are envisage being trekking/hiking, cultural program, picnicking, home stay trip and mountain biking. There is no official record available of the tourist visit Lele. So, this is necessary for making future plan related with the tourism in the study area. Knowledgeable local tour guides were not found in village. So, training programs about tourist guide should be launched because presence of local tour guide would increase the length of the tourists stay in the village and locals could benefit from tourism to make it more sustainable. People are not engaged in producing handicraft which is very necessary and important in order to directly benefit the local. Documentation of various functional groups, like handicraft production group, lodge management committee and environment awareness group would further support the management for sustainable tourism in Lele. It has been recommended that access of road needs to be improved to make Lele reachable round the year. It is recommended that home stay management system should be initiated to make locals to benefit more from tourism. The awareness about the importance of tourism should be flourished in rural areas of Nepal like Lele by providing the effective trainings.Item Prospects of Developing Village Tourism in Palpa District: A Case Study of Madanpokhara VDC(Department of Rural Development, 2015) Bhattarai, Lalita KumariThe thesis entitled “Prospects of Developing Village Tourism in Palpa District: A Case Study of Madanpokhara VDC” was prepared to highlight the potentatlity of village tourism in Madanpokhara VDC, the first model village of Nepal, which lies in Palpa district of Lumbini Zone. Multi culture nature and impact of tourism are seen on every facets of human life. Now, Tourism has become one of the interesting and new businesses in which natural beauties, human creations and constructions play a vital role. Only natural beauties are not enough to attract tourist but also facilities, security, accessibility are also most important factors. Madanpokhara is a prosperous village near Tansen, of panoramic hill town of Nepal. This beautiful valley has cultural and religious values. There are several attractive human creation and construction to attract the flow of tourist. Hence, the present research work was prepared with the objective of identifying the prospects of developing village tourism in Madanpokhara, to identify facilities available for village tourism, assess the tourism product available in the study area to attract tourist. It is mainly based on primary data, collected using questionnaire to the key informants direct observation with the general objective to analyze the prospects of developing village tourism. For this study, by applying random sampling method ,10 local people, 18 Nepalese tourists, 2 Hotel Owners and 10 Government service holders were selected for the key informants interview. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed by applying stastical tools. Based on the study, it is found that Madanpokhara VDC has high potentialities of village tourism especially in eco-tourism, cultural tourism and religious tourism. Most of people depend on traditional agriculture system for their livelihoods. But only the organic feeding of local products for visitors is very good. There is no availability of accurate official data and records of the tourist visit in tourist information centre. So it is necessary to keep the records in systematic manner so that the future tourism plan will be succeeded effectively.
