Item Effectiveness of Task- based Language Teaching in TeachingWriting(Department of English Education, 2011) Bhandari, Manoj SinghThe research study entitled 'Effectiveness of Task- Based Language Teaching inTeaching Writing' was carried out to find the effectiveness of task based languageteaching in teaching writing and suggest some pedagogical implications. For conductingthis study, I purposively sampled secondary schools of Dadeldhura district. The schoolwas Ghanghasya Secondary School Khateda and then 20 students of class ten wereselected for the study. For the present study, I used interactive approach to teach writingunder TBLT framework. I took pre-test to determine the students' proficiency in writing.During my teaching I administered two progressive tests to find out pace of the students'progress and finally I took post-test to determine the effectiveness of TBLT in teachingwriting skills. The increase in the score in two progressive tests and post test incomparison to pre-test shows that task based language teaching improves students'writing skills remarkably. Average score of pre-test is 15.2 where as in post test it is 27.6.The present thesis has been grouped into four chapters; Introduction, Methodology,Analysis and Interpretation, and Findings and Recommendations. The first chapter dealswith the general background, literature review, objectives of the study and significance ofthe study. The second chapter contains the methodology which is again sub-chaptered assources of data, sampling procedures, tools of data collection, process of data collectionand limitations of the study. The third chapter includes the analysis and interpretations ofthe data received from primary sources. The fourth chapter has the findings andrecommendations of the research study in which pedagogical implications have also beensuggested.Item Students' perceptions on using film in developing writing skills(Department of English Education, 2023) Saud, Padam SinghThe present study entitled Students’ Perceptions on Using Film in Developing Writing Skills aims to find out the students’ perceptions towards the use of film in developing writing skills and to explore the use of film in classroom. I used random sampling procedure and collected the data from 40 students studying in grade 12 in Sitala Devi Secondary School, Ramechhap, by administrating the questionnaire. I used survey research design under quantitative research approach for this study. The study used open-ended and close-ended questionnaires as the tool for collecting data. Moreover, the data were analyzed and interpreted quantitatively and descriptively. From the analysis and interpretation of data, it was found that film is one of the teaching tools that is sources of information for developing writing skills of the students. It was also found that films can be taken as the most important tool to enhance vocabulary, grammar and spelling of the learners. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter comprises of the background of the study, statement of the problems, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter deals with review of the related theoretical literature, review of the related empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Third chapter incorporates research design, population, sample and sampling strategy, sources of data, data collection tools, data collection procedure and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter is about the interpretation of the result. Finally, the fifth chapter is all about the conclusion and implications of the study followed by policy, practices, and further research related based on the study. At the end it includes references and appendices.Item Students’ Perceptions on Teachers’ Written feedback(Faculty of Education, 2011) Joshi, Puspa RajThe present study entitled‘Students’ Perceptions on Teachers’ Written Feedback’was an attempt to analyze students’ perceptions towards their teachers’ writtenfeedback. This study was carried out using both the primary and secondary sourcesof data. For primary data, sixty studentswere randomly selected from two highersecondary schools of Doti district namely; Shree Janta Janardan and Shree BhawaniHigher Secondary Schools which were selected through purposive/ judgementalnon-random sampling procedure. I used both close and open-ended questionnaire toelicit the required data. It was found that most of the students would like to getpositive feedback from their teachers.About forty three per cent (43.33) of themperceived teachers’ written feedback is extremely important as the mainimprovement tool of learning writing as well as whole learning. This thesis consists four chapters along with references and appendicesat the end.The first chapterdeals with the introduction part which mainly includes generalbackground, language skills, factors affecting the language learning, feedback andperceptionalong withthe review of related literature, objectives and significance ofthe study. The second chapter deals with the methodology used in the study. Thesources of data, sample andsampling procedures, tools for data collection, datacollection procedures and limitations of the study are included in this chapter.Chapter three includes analysis and interpretation of the data. The final chapterencompasses with the findings and recommendations made after the analysis of thedata.Item A Study on Pcl Second Year Students' Proficiency in communicative Functions in English(Department of English Education, 2007) Ghimire, Yam NathThis research is an effort to find out the students' proficiency in using the appropriateexpressions of language to serve various communicative functions in the given situations. The communicative functions against which the students' proficiency was tested wereselected from those included in the newly introduced textbook at PCL first year of T. U.namely 'New Headway, Intermediate Students' Book' on the basis of most commonfunctions that are likely to occur in everyday communicative life in general. In this textbook different communicative functions are supposed to be taught and learned under thetitle of 'Everyday English' at the end of each unit. So, primarily this research is to see howfar the students who completed their PCL first year in the academic year 2062/063 doingthe textbook mentioned including two others namely Chinar I (Anthology) and AcademicEncounters which primarily deal with reading and writing skills in English, could showthe proficiency in using those communicative functions in the extended settings of dailycommunication. In order to carry out this study the researcher collected data from thePCL second year (academic year 2063/064) students studying in the campuses ofKathamndu valley. Thetotal sample population of the study comprises 120 students and they were selectedby using stratified random sampling procedure. The tools that the researcher made use ofwere two types of test items carrying 25 full marks each; receptive in which studentswere to recognize the expressions appropriate to serve various communicative functionsin the given situations and productive in which students had to produce the appropriateexpressions on their own to fulfill various communicative functions in the givensituations. While coding students' responses, each appropriate receptive answer wasassigned 1 score and 2 score for the correct productive response. The scores obtainedfrom the students were tabulated on the basis of variables specified. On the basis of thecollected data the students' proficiency in using appropriate expressions of language toserve those communicative functions was determined by using simple statistical tools such as average and percentage. The findings of the study show that the averagecommunicative proficiency of the students as a whole is 46.06 percent. And the studyalso shows that I.A. students are better than those of I.Ed. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background ofthe study, review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of thestudy.Chapter two deals with methodology which entails sources of data, sampling populationand sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection andlimitation of the study. Chapter three entails analysis and interpretation of the data. The data has been analyzedunder content-oriented variables and informant-oriented variables. Chapter four consists of findings and recommendations made on the basis of the findings. The findings of the study show that students are better in the productive use of language for communicative purpose i.e. they are more proficient in using appropriate expressionsof language on their own to serve those communicative functions understudy rather thanin recognizing the expressions appropriate to serve those communicative functions in thegiven situations. The findings also show that the communicative proficiency of thestudents of PCL in HSS both receptive and productive is better compared against those ofPCL in Ed's counterparts.
