Abstract: This is a case study related to find the causes of failure in mathematics of Santhal students of Shree Secondary School, Bairiya Bhimpur Bhathigachh- 6 Morang. The objectives of this study were to find the causes of failure in mathematics of Santhal students and to identify the strategies taken by school in improving mathematics achievements. This study was conducted with the ten respondents (five boys and five girls) of grade V. It was chosen purposively, the Santhal students according to the performances in mark obtained by them. Direct interview with students, corresponding parents, subject teacher and head teachers were taken. Classroom observation was done regularly for twenty days during teaching learning activities being participantwith math teacher and students. Thus, collected data were analyzed according to conceptual framework developed by researcher. It is concluded that the traditional type of exercise in teaching learning activities are the one of the causes of failure in mathematics of Santhal students. The School policies are not sufficient to address failure students. This study shows that weak financial conditions, non-educated family, irregularity of students in class, lack of teaching learning materials, bad home environment, load of house hold work and domestic problems, language discontinuity at home and school are the cause of failure of Santhal students in mathematics.
