Abstract: This study entitled Orange Production and its Contribution on Income of Farmer in Rural Area: A Case Study of Tanahun District has been carried out in practical fulfillment for the degree of Art in Economics. The objectives of the analyze are to analysis the orange cultivation and its role in the socio economic status and contribution of western hilly people particularly of the Suklagandaki 1 Thaprek. However, the specific objectives are To describe socioeconomic characters of orange growers in the study area, To estimate the contribution made by the orange in income of orange growers, To analyze the trends of orange production in last five years in the study area, To find out problem faced by orange growers and To show the prospects of orange cultivation in Thaprek. To provide suggestions for policy making to the concerned authorities though this study is based on both primary and secondary data, the secondary data have been used in the background of the study to know the production and marketing situation of district and national level. Primary data have been collected from Suklagandaki 1 Thaprek of Tanahun district by applying simple random sampling method in year 2073. Although out of 157 household 50 household have been selected for interviewing from each ward. This study has been done to find out the socio economic condition of orange growers, contribution of orange production and to identify the problems faced by orange producers. Out of the 50 households of orange growers, 12 households have income below 60 thousand earning by the sale of orange per year. Proportion of households whose income range from Rs. 60000 to Rs. 120000 is higher in the sample which is 28 households. This shows orange farming uplift the economic condition of the farmers. The Sampled household had net production of orange 1.9 Tons in year 2069 and 2.7 Tons in 2073. It concluded that the level of income is study area is slightly increasing. The farmers are suggested by the researcher to extend orange farming, to make producer group for empowerment, to make pounds immediately for irrigation etc. The DADO Tanahun is suggested to identify the diseases and treat them, to test soil, to provide training, seed and irrigation facility to the farmers.
