Abstract: This study entitled“Motivation of the Foster Care Students towards English”was carried out to investigate the causes of motivation of the students of foster care towards learning the English language. In order to collect the data, the researcher prepared fifty six objective and nine subjective questions. Altogether ninety students were selected from three different foster cares of the Kathmandu Valley. Thirty students were randomly selected from each foster care.Questionnaires were distributed to the selected students for collecting data. After collecting the data and responses, they were processed, analyzed and interpreted and then recommendations were put on the basis of the findings. The major findings of this research work are that the students learn the English Language for different purposes like, ‘to get good job’, ‘to pass the exam’, ‘to be a complete person’ etc. The students have positive attitude towards learning the English language but they are not satisfied with the classroom environment, examination and evaluation system, and curriculum, etc. There are various factors which lead to positive motivation towards English language learning. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter consists of introduction, the general background, language learning and acquisition, factors that affect in language learning, detailed analysis of motivation, literature review, objectives of the study and the significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology applied to carry out the research work. The third chapter presents the processing, analysis and interpretation of the data. The data were analyzed and interpreted by using simple statistical tool (table) in terms of percentage. The last chapter includes the findings of this research work and some important recommendations are made on the basis of the findings.
