Abstract: The main aim of the study was to find out the attitude of orphans towards the English language. The study was carried out on the basis of the data collected from orphan students living in SOS Children’s Village,Surkhet and SOS Youth Hostel,Karkando,Nepalgunj. They had positive attitude towards the English language. The study was felt necessary in order to make the teaching learning of the course more relevant and boost up the orphans' standard in the English language. The data collection for the study relied on a set of questionnaire prepared by the researcher. Several tasks were included in the questionnaire. Mainly,it involved the objective responses from the orphans.The questionnaire(attitude inventory)was administered to 80 orphan students;50 from SOS Children’s Village Surkhet and 30 from SOS Youth Hostel Karkando,Nepalgunj. After collecting the data through the questionnaire,analysis and interpretation were done. In total, the orphans were found to have positive attitude towards the English language. The study is divided into four main chapters. The first chapter deals with the general introduction and the importance of the English language, language teaching, the historical perspective of the English language in the Nepalese context, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology used to carry out the research work which includes sources of data, population of the study,sampling procedures, tools for data collection, process of data collection,limitations of the study and definition of specific terms. The third chapter presents analysis and interpretation of the obtained data. The fourth chapter consists of findings and recommendations on the basis of chapter three. Apart from these four main chapters, the supportive materials, viz. references,questionnaires, tables with percentage of the favourable and unfavourable responses of the orphans are presented.
