Abstract: The thesis entitled "Effects of Socioeconomic and Family status on Second language Acquisition" aimed to find out the learning of second language in terms of different variables: education of parents, family structure, ethnicity, occupation and family income. The data were collected (responses made to the test items and questionnaires administered to the students) from secondary level grade ten students who were from ten different public schools of Dhanusha district. The data were analysed on the basis of student average achievement score. The major findings of the study shows that students having educated parents, belonging to non-dalit group, with family having mixed occupation, belonging to rich family and having nuclear family were found to be better learners. There are four chapters in this study: the introduction, methodology, analysis and interpretation and findings and recommendations. The first chapter deals with the general background, literature review, objectives and the significance of the study. Chapter two deals with methodology, i.e. how the research was carried out. It includes sources of data (primary and secondary), population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Similarly, chapter three entails analysis and interpretation of the data obtained from the field. The last fourth chapter has the findings and recommendations of the study in which some pedagogical implications have been recommended.
