Analysis of the Language Used on Online Chatting

Abstract

This study entitled "Analysis of the Language Used on Online Chatting" aims to analyze the language used on online chatting and email in terms of linguistic,functional and sign system, code switching related features of the language.The researcher used purposive non random sampling method and collected data from 40 students and analyzed those datausingsimplestatisticaltools.The chief finding of the research was that the students used grammatically and functionally ill formed expressions of English language on online chatting such as most of the students used shortening and abbreviate form of words on their use of English language on online chatting. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction which mainly consist of the background of the study; the internet,education and development; Developing countries and Educational computing;The rise of computer in education in Kathmandu Valley; Mass Media; The Internet; Services provided by the Internet, Correcting written work; Various forms of online communication; Different between spoken and written text;Literature Review; Objective of the study and significance of the study.The second chapter deals with the methodology used in the study. The sources of data, sample population and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, data collection procedures are included in this chapter.Chapter three is the main part of the study which includes analysis and interpretation of the data. The data is discussed descriptively with the help of table.The last chapter deals with the findings and recommendations made after the analysis of the data and conclusion of the study are also included within it.
