Abstract: The present study entitled Role of Government in Professional Development of Primary Level English Teachers was an attempt to find out the attitudes of primary level English teachers regarding the role of government in professional development. This study was carried outusing both the primary and secondary sources of data.As primary sources of data,forty English language teachers were selected. Among them,twenty from government schools and twenty from private schools ofprimary level English teachers were randomly selectedfrom twenty schools of Dhanusha district.The data was collected using a questionnaire to get information regarding the role of government. I used both open-ended and closed-ended types of questions to elicit the required data. They were found very positive towards the role of government and they opinedthat all the primary level English teachers must engage themselves in trainings provided by government. The data was analyzed using simple statistical tools like frequency, percentage andpresented using paraorthographical modes like tables. After interpretation and analysis of data, it was found out that the role of government is very crucial for the primary level English teachers to bring change and improvement in their teaching behavior. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background, review of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology under which sources of data, sampling procedure, research tools, process of data collection and limitations of the study have been included. Similarly, the third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data. The final chapter consists of the findings and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of data.
