Abstract: The present study entitled Effectiveness of Picture Strip Story in Teaching Guided Writing aims at finding out the effectiveness of picture strip story technique in teaching guided writing. To carry out this research, sixty students of grade eight of Adarsha Higher Secondary School, Lasargha of Syangja district were selected as sample population. The students for the study were selected using the technique of fishbowl draw (lottery). The main tool for data collection was test. The test items were administered to assess the guided writing ability of the students. Five different test items were selected. Each question carries 10 marks. All questions were subjective in nature. The same test items were used for both pre-test and post-test. Lesson plans and teaching materials were other supporting tools. The main finding of this study is that teaching guided writing through picture strip technique is more effective than usual way of classroom teaching. This thesis is divided into four chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub-chapters. The first chapter begins with introduction to the history of ELT in Nepal, Language Skills, role of technique in language teaching, teaching aids and their importance, visual aids, picture strip story, picture strip story as a technique in language teaching , effectiveness of picture strip stories in teaching language skills, teacher’s role in picture strip story technique,advantages of using strip story in language classroom as in general background and review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study are other sub-chapters. The second chapter includes the sources of data collection,sample population of the study, sampling procedure, and tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data, which has been done on the basis of the comparison between different marks obtained by students of both groups in pre and post tests. The fourth chapter includes the findings and recommendations with the help of analysis and interpretation of collected data.The final part of the thesis includes references and appendices.
