Abstract: | Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games projects archetypal heroism. The major Character Katniss Everdeen belongs to the ordinary world filled with the challenges like poverty and hunger. Her journey ends in the heroic world of achievement and fame. Like every archetypal hero, she envisions to liberate her brethrens from the totalitarian bondage. The perspective of archetypal heroism propounded by Joseph Campbell is used as the main theoretical tool. With this tool, the researcher probes into the issue of archetypal heroism in this text. There is hardly any chance to survive because all the participants in the game are required to kill one another. Katniss’ chance of winning the game is minimal as there are more well trained and vigorous tributes in the game. Moved and motivated by the favourable circumstance of the game, Katniss enters the alliance and ultimately wins the game. |
