Abstract: Alexander Pushkin’s Novel The Captains Daughter is a comprehensive study of fortitude in romance in extremely life threatening moments. It also carries the message ‘never give up’ no matter what harsh situation it is. Pyotr and Maria are such characters who do not give up their romantic relationship, rather move ahead with their mission whatever obstacles they face on the way. The main problems that appeared in the course of the research were how the characters overcame the obstacles the major characters faced during their mission, and why they showed so great fortitude. Following the problems, the study aimed at identifying and describing the types of obstacles that obstructed their smooth journey to romance and explaining their strong fortitude in their romance. These characters proceed with audacity being involved in romance, duty, war and fortitude. The text has been analyzed and interpreted using the principles of romantic sensibilities, particularly fortitude and romance. The study has concluded that the author has purposefully blended romance, duty, perseverance and patience to give the message that fortitude brings significant result in romance.
