Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of selfmonitoringtechniques of teaching. To accomplish this task, all the students of grade 12 of JantaHigher Secondary Schools from Parbat district wasselected for the collection of data.Students were asked to write free compositions only. The researcher made acollection of compositions written by the students, recorded and tabulated the errorsand corrections everyday. He used self monitoring techniques for the self correctionof errors. For that, he first of all encouraged and motivated the students to find out theerrors themselves committed in free writings. And then, he directed the students tocount and record the errors committed and correctionsmade by the studentsseparately for twenty days. The students were also asked to record the progressivemarks of the tests. At the end, he used the grand total of error and corrections to showthe effectiveness of self monitoring technique to the students. The researcher dividedthe errors committed by the students in free writing composition into six differentparts–Spelling, Vocabulary, Punctuation, Grammar, Content and Format. Then hecounted the number of errors and corrections of each types of errorin total. Afterlisting the total number of errors and corrections and test marks it was found that self-monitoring technique was more effective in developing free writing skills amongstudents. The introduction consists of general background, review of the relatedliterature, objectives and the significance of the study. The second chapter presentsthe methodology that includes the sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for thecollection and limitations of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis andinterpretation of the data. Similarly, the fourth chapter includes the product ananalysis and interpretation of the data i.e. findings of thestudy and somerecommendations made on the basis of the findings. Finally, the references and theappendices which are necessary for the validation of the research are also presented.
