Abstract: The present study entitled "Errors Committed by Ninth Graders in Word Formation" is a survey research. The main purpose of this study was to identify errors committed by ninth graders in word formation. Sixty students of four different schools of Kathmandu district were selected non-randomly for the study. Then the researcher prepared test items consisting three different items as a tool for data collection and visited the selected schools and administered the test items. Then, the researcher examined the students' responses and identified the errors. The study found out that the highest number of errors were committed in modification against the lowest number of errors in prefixes. In comparison with different word classes the highest number of errors were found in verbs against the lowest in adjective formation. This thesis has been organized into five distinct chapters. The first chapter is the introduction in which background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms are incorporated. The second chapter includes the review of both theoretical and empirical literature, along with the implications of the review for the study. It also includes conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with the methods and procedures of the study. It includes design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, study area, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedure. The fourth chapter includes analysis and interpretation of the data and the summary of findings. Then, the fifth chapter presents the conclusions of the study and recommendations based on the findings for different levels. This chapter is followed by references and appendices used for the study.
