Failure of Resistance in Richard Wright's Black Boy

Abstract

The discourse of the white supremacy and the painful growing up of the protagonist Richard are forgrounded in the Novel Black Boy in the setting of American South. Racial violence frequently challenges the protagonist and his defiance to the white-hegemony is doomed to failure as he fails to channel the racial hatred of Black community to liberate the community as a whole. He escapes from the South to North as defeated and hence, asserts the invincibility of the white domination.
