Abstract: The present study entitled "Effectiveness of Teaching Materials for Teaching Vocabulary in Grade Four" attempts to find out the effectiveness of teaching materials for teaching vocabulary in Grade Four. It has been carried out practically and comparatively. To carry out this research work, thirty-six students of grade four studying at ‘Janata Lower Secondary School’ a public school, situated at Dulari-8, Morang were selected as sample population. Only sixty-five vocabulary from the text-book of grade four were selected for this work. The mode of the test was written. A pre-test was given before the experimental teaching to find out the proficiency of the students at the beginning. Then they were divided into two groups on the basis of their odd-even roll number. After the division of group, one group was taught words by using pictures and realia as teaching materials and other by using usual technique. After teaching twenty-two classes, the post-test was given. Then the result of both pre-test and post-test of the both groups were compared to find out the effectiveness of teaching materials for teaching vocabulary. The main finding of this research work is that teaching words through pictures and realia as teaching materials in grade four is more effective than teaching without using teaching materials ( pictures and realia ). The thesis is divided into four chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub-chapters. The first chapter consists of general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with methodology used to carry out the research work. Thirty-six students of grade four of the selected school were divided into ‘Experimental group and controlled group as group ‘A’ and group ‘B’ respectively. Group ‘A’ was taught with special treatment by using pictures and relia while the next group was taught as usual. Pre-test and Post-test were administered to measure the effectiveness of teaching materials ( i-e. pictures and realia ) for teaching vocabulary. The questionnaire with 65 items was used to collect the primary data. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of data. The data have been analysed and interpreted on the basis of difference between the average score in percentage of each group in the pre-test and post-test. Chapter four includes the findings and recommendations. With the help of analysis and interrelation of the obtained data, some findings have been shown and then some recommendations have been listed based on the findings. The appendices and references are included in the last part of this research work.
