Title: Proficiency of the Students of PCL Level in the Use of Paronyms

Abstract: This study attempts to explore the PCL level students proficiency in the use of Paronyms (pairs of words) included in the textbook of grade eleven and PCL 1st year. Students' achievement is also measured on the basis of variables like; Boys Vs Girls, Urban Vs Rural and Technical Vs Non-technical institutes. Altogether 100 students, 10 students from each college from 5 public and 5 private colleges of Kaski district were selected for this study. The students were randomly selected. The tool consisted of a set of test items consisting of multiple choice items, fill in the blanks, choose the correct word, matching halves were used to assess students' proficiency in the use of Paronyms. The students were randomly selected to do the test based on different strata. The data thus obtained were tabulated and analyzed using simple statistical tools of mean and percentage. The result of the test showed that most of the students were found below the average. And hence their performance was not satisfactory. The boys were found better than the girls, urban colleges students were found better than the rural colleges and private colleges students were found better than those of public colleges. The first chapter dealt with the introduction of the thesis study, the second chapter dealt with methodology of it, the third chapter dealt with the analysis and interpretation of the study and fourth chapter dealt with summary, conclusion of it and some recommendations would put forward based on the study.
